I booked a flight from LGA-NAS, returning NAS-ATL-JFK because it was 10k TY points (or about $120) cheaper than the NAS-LGA non-stop back.  I check tonight and the RT, both non-stop is actually 500 or so TY points cheaper.  I called Citi TY and they said there would be some sort of $50 fee because it was an international booking so I hung up and called Delta directly and the rep couldn't have been nicer, switched me to the non-stop back and was even able to give me a $7 voucher for the price difference.  The reason I write this post is because I was over the 24 hour time limit by 2 hours but the rep from Delta said that as long as you call them before midnight the following day of your booking you can change/cancel, no problem.  Anyone know if this is true of all airlines, some or just Delta?

UA is a strict 24 hours.
Orbitz allows until 11pm ET the day after booking.

some airlines its 24 hrs, some its midnight of the next day (like aa)

however, keep in mind that midnight is from the time zone of where the flight is departing from.
i lost a flight on hold on aa once when i was booking a one way return from ny. tried to book it 11:00 pm california time, but it was already out of the system

On the same token, keep in mind that United's "midnight" is not always midnight and sometimes the reservation can expire a few hours before midnight, especially on partner airlines.

That's interesting because I just held a flight and it said it will expire the following day midnight at the point of the destination

This thread is discussing cancellation policies, not hold policies.

Delta says this clearly in their terms and conditions.

I placed a hold on an aa flight, then booked it a few hours later. I then cancelled it within 24hrs assuming i'd get a refund.

Was i mistaken? what is the AA policy?

Aa does not allow cancellations even within 24 hours. Instead they allow you to hold a reservation for 24 hours.

Hard coded?

I booked a(n award) ticket just before Shabbos came in. About half hour after Shabbos went out I realized that it was for the wrong day and the rep cancelled it for me on the basis of the 24 hour cancellation policy.
I want going to ask any questions.

You get the same 2x from an OTA. And a real cancellation policy.

They won't give in. They said they won't charge me the 200 change fee. Any ideas of what flight I should change it to that somehow I will be able to get back the money or any other ideas?

Interesting to note, that while Priceline and Expedia usually allow free cancellation for flights booked on Friday, as that is the following business day, they are both (I checked) only giving free cancellation until tomorrow night for flights booked today (instead of giving till Mon night).
There we're definitely times that they did extend the policy like here http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/56129 and here http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/56007
