In case needed in the future. Whats the difference as long as the patient is getting exact copies?

+1 You always need a record and documentation of what you've done

Thank you! The question then is, are dentists bound by ADA codes?

I believe yes and a dentist can be reprimanded depending on the case for going against it

Members of the ADA voluntarily agree to abide by the ADA Code as a condition of membership in the Association.

Not every dentist is a member of the ADA. Besides, the ADA does not write law.

My bad. Still in school where they preach the awesomeness of the ada . Though if that particular dentist is a member then the patient could file a complaint to the state chapter and the dentist can be censored based on

"A member who is found guilty of unethical conduct proscribed by the ADA Code or code of ethics of the constituent or component society, may be placed under a sentence of censure or suspension or may be expelled from membership in the Association."

Additionally I believe the ada helps write the law and from what I see here https://www.health.ny.gov/professionals/patients/patient_rights/access_to_patient_information.htm
It looks like there is an obligation by law to provide the records (despite the actual radiographs belonging to the dentist I'm assuming copies of them would be considered part of the dental record based off the ada http://www.laneykay.com/dentalpractice_dental_records.pdf see page 14)

I think he should just call and ask them to prepare copies.  The receptionist will have a protocol, and he'll have what he wants.

Schools do push the ADA and ASDA a lot!
They have a lobby group called ADPAC which helps guide congress but they don't write laws.
There probably is a legal reason to give records. I've never really researched it because, like like ckmk47 said:

I don't know if he takes Medicaid, but I use Dr. Hecker, in Bensonhurst. He's great and his prices are very reasonable, compared to other dentists I've seen.

We can do better than that!

Good question.  Question is better than the answer.  My family and my extended family have been using him for 20 years and never had a problem with anything he did. Hes very cautious and careful.  What will take a dentist 30 minutes will take him 35 or 40 minutes. Its not that hes slow its just him being careful and meticulous.

As a dentist, I'm always curious about the patient's perception.

To add to this I have used a different dentist as well, and by comparison it is quite easy to tell the difference. Recovery and judgement of when work is necessary are the main things that I found to differ, and obviously if the work was done well, ie no fillings ever falling out...

At dentist for "six month checkup, xrays and cleaning "

Just realized that the $65 cleaning and also the x-ray are a scam.
Il have the dr take a quick look and I'm out.

I don't even really buy into the requirement for a bi-annual Dr examination.  - I would never get a physical twice a year.. Especially if not covered by insurance...

Eta xrays are needed for seeing between teeth.,.. But cleaning is not a necessary expense.
