Hi Everyone, I want to provide you with a further update on our Hong Kong award programming error from this past weekend. Specifically here’s how we are proceeding with these reservations:
For those customers who had sufficient mileage in their account for the correct award amount, the correct amount of miles were deducted at the time of redemption. Any customers who do not intend to use the published number of miles for their ticket may cancel their reservation without paying a fee and we will refund all miles, taxes and fees.

For those customers who did not have sufficient mileage in their account for the correct award amount, the correct amount of miles could not be deducted at the time of redemption. These tickets have been canceled for non-payment and all taxes and fees have been refunded.

For those customers who have already begun travel, or are ticketed to begin travel on or before July 21, we will not cancel these tickets and will allow travel to be completed in full. This is intended as an accommodation to those customers whose travel is already underway or the departure date to begin travel is imminent.
We hope you’ll agree this was a unique circumstance. Unlike other widely reported “mistake fares,” the number of miles required for these awards – the correct purchase price – was clearly disclosed to customers throughout the MileagePlus award redemption process and is also available on our MileagePlus travel award chart.

We are in the process of communicating with affected customers at this time. Once again, we appreciate your understanding.

I am not going to suggest any immoral actions to you but you can certainly take major advantage of this IF you had a hotel reservation and car reservation I don't see how they wouldn't reimburse you for your next trip which they will have to provide you with for a date of your choosing. Maybe ask them to add the infant for free. There are so many possibilities of what they will compensate you with. I hope now you realize how ridiculous they've treated you and file a complaint with DOT or tell a supervisor you will if said demands aren't met (Assuming they are within reason.) Anyway I also want to suggest you write up your story and have mordy send it to his friend at the WSJ you being an exception to their now stated "Policy" it makes for a decent news story and subplot in this whole game.

I wish I was making these phone calls. I would have such a good time telling every rep "my" story and how wrong "I've" been treated. The best part is you really are in the right. So IMHO you can't lose just remember every reps name and what they say it'll add to the whole story.

Update regarding award itinerary
that includes Hong Kong

Dear aussiebochur,

You recently requested the ticketing of MileagePlus award travel to, from or through Hong Kong (confirmation xxxxxx). Because your account does not have enough miles to complete the purchase, we have canceled the ticket for non-payment and refunded all taxes and fees. The number of miles required for this award was provided during your transaction and is published on the MileagePlus travel award chart on our website.

If you have already canceled the ticket, please disregard this email.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to serving you in the future.

I believe I have a document from UAL certifying that had already received full payment

Whatever, very weird neither the DoT nor UAL issued a press release.

It's a very lame excuse that the correct price was posted in the beginning... How many times have you seen on Amazon where it says one price and in the cart it's much cheaper! Come on UA at least send an apology letter.

If they acknowledge it being a traditional price mistake they will have to honor it. I hope this argument wasn't supported by the DoT.

My tix from HKG to CLE are still showing, probably cuz they deducted 210k miles from me (for 4 tix). However, the TLV to HKG was canceled.

On the final screen, it actually did show the correct (full) amount above and then the 4 miles below.
