ConEd is running a program together with a company called ThinkEco called coolNYC. They are providing free units to NYC residents that plug in between your AC and outlet that act as a timer, thermostat, and energy monitor.

"During demand response for coolNYC, your window air conditioners will turn on and off at a slightly higher thermostat setting so that it's used less overall, but in a way that keeps your home sufficiently cool. You'll be notified a day ahead of any events, and you always have the choice to opt in or out, each time - opt outs can happen both before and during the event. Most summers, there is a need for just 2-4 demand response event."

You get to keep the modlet even after the summer is over its great for shabbos and yom roc you can set up the timer you can control your ac from wherever you are from the app or from the website portal it's only for nyc residents if you order 2 or less you will get a USB receiver that has to connect to a computer if you order 3 or more you get the gateway that plugs into your router

I just got the exact same. I don't think I have an available ethernet port. What do I do?

They just had a guy come install my modlets and program them. He was a young guy in college who is in their internship program. Whole thing was easy. He said they are pushing for in home install bc lots off ppl received the gear last yr but didn't bother to install. He went out special and bought me the bridge as well. He told me they had ten thousand units this year, but only about 30-40 employees there.
He gave me new modlets but left the same gateway. I didn't really need him bc it's quite simple to do, but I appreciate the free bridge.
It's a Rosewill 10/100 bridge... does the job just fine. No guaranteeing what you'll get tho. Just call em and let them know you'll need one.

At most just for specialized email explaining the app. No need to worry about it

did you keep the baseline for two weeks (as it mentions online), or change the dates?

According to coned, you cannot set the timers for the first two weeks. This way they can get an idea of how you use your Ac and what kind of "plan" to put you on.
Although, you can change this option and have it for a few days and then be able to set the timers.

I am using the modlet, and my ac is not turning on. it acts as if it is being plugged out and plugged back in (which I guess is what it does) but I need to actually press power button to start ac. Any solutions would be appreciated Thanks

AFAIK these and other timers don't work with digital ACs.

Some digital acs work just like the manual ones. If u unplug and plug back in they continue where they left off.

+1. For the very reason that many ppl still prefer to use the manual socket timers that just cut the power.

So I just called them, regarding internet, in order to have schedules (aka a timer) and control it with your phone, you must have internet access.
Regarding the baselines: It's basically a way to see how much you're saving by using the modlet, it's not a must though.
USB vs Gateway: I have the USB and I'm not really keen on having my laptop constantly running. If people want to switch, call them and you can go to the office and switch it there.
Hope this info helps :)

Mine just showed up yesterday. Box had a label that says "Warehouse" on it and I couldn't remember what I bough from Amazon. Then I opened the box and pulled out this weird-looking white and green thing, and I had no idea at all what it was. Seriously thought I was losing my mind!!
If you have my email PLEASE don't PM me :)

The remote is the thermostat which converts the modlet from a standard thinkeco modlet to a smartac modlet.
