Do travel agents alert airlines of price mistakes?
« on: August 06, 2012, 08:02:44 PM »
Just wondering, do travel agents alert airlines when there is a price mistake? After all, im sure many of those that booked today online, may have otherwise called a travel agent to book sometime this winter.

Why would they? You're saying so they shouldn't lose out money?

These tickets made me a quick grand today.

You are a TA as well?
My understanding was, that Dan wrote to use orbitz or expedia, so therefore most people I spoke to, went to those sites instead of calling a travel agent, (since after all it wasn't a real legit fare, it was a mistake). Therefore, im asking that under normal circumstances many of the people that booked today might have called their TA at some point this winter, (if they would've flown regardless), thus costing the TA's much lost revenue throughout this coming winter?
If you are a travel agent, im sure you got calls today, but can that equal all the non calls that you wont be getting the next few weeks?

Not a TA as well but I did help quite a few people book. Friends and  Family members got my help free of charge. Everyone else didn't! :)

I know a few TA that charged extra $30 and did for everybody (they did on Expedia.com like everybody).
One of them told me he made $2,000 out of the 60 tickets he booked within the 3 hours.
Not bad for a half day work!

And what's wrong with that? It's a service fee? Most of these people wouldn't be able to book online

True. I dont mean you specifically. ;D
Why question was in general. Do travel agents stand to lose from these prise mistakes that go viral. True you can make $30x60 in one day, but in the long run over the winter I would think all travel agents stand to lose. Am i wrong with my assessment?

You're assuming that travel agents make more when the ticket costs more?

Yes. im assuming it has to do with the price.
But my biggest issue is, that I believe that the overwhelming majority booked on line instead of a travel agent, do to it being advertised as a mistake, when many of these same people would've used a TA during the winter.

Many? Maybe some but I doubt it's THAT many.

I'm not sure. It seems the majority of people that booked this deal would have booked themselves either way.

My father spoke to a travel agent before he booked his tickets and was told that they had contacted elal already and that it was a mistake. He didn't want to book the tickets because he didn't want to get involved with these tix

Because a travel agent can get billed for errors.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.
