slightly off topic, but do you know if theoretically I could add a line(you) and get an iphone at the subsidized price and then call to switch to whatever "(dumb) non-data" phone you have already?
Could this be done?

I dunno about Verizon, but with Sprint it works. You just order the phone online and when it comes you don't activate it.

Even if you activate a smartphone with Sprint and then switch to a feature phone they will just prorate it.

Not sure what you're saying, did you notice I said you can do it at Sprint without activating (at all)?

It can also be done with AT&T by calling them and giving an IMEI number of a non-iPhone phone. That way the data plan is not required. But you will still have to pay for the $9.99 additional line every month...

Yeah. I'm just saying even if you do activate it (buy in store ) they will only prorate it and not charge you for data 2 years.

They wont charge you data for 2 years because you upgraded to a smartphone? Does only T-Mobile do that?

I did that many times for different lines when I was in Israel with an Israeli Sim Card to avoid getting charged the US data plan charges... In addition I was able to put the lines on hold for 6-12 months (saving another 6-12 months x $9.99)

AFAIK T-Mobile charges you the data if you upgrade to a smartphone even.if you dont use it on the line you upgraded.

Yes, I did it with VZW.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Does anyone have experience with the IPhone 5 yet? Has Verizon been more strick, or changed their policy regarding it?

Does anyone have the corporate contact info for VZ Wireless. I heard that I should call them prior to upgrading  my phones and that they can allow the retention of unlimited data.

I have a family plan. One line is a basic phone and eligible for an upgrade. If i use that upgrade to buy a smartphone but sell it without activating it, will i be charged the full price? A CSR told me yes but...
If i transfer that upgrade to a different line does the upgrade date transfer to the line that sent it? (if im going to be charged full price i can transfer the upgrade to a diff line that is eligible in 2 months but dont want to lose that upgrade)

(mods feel free to merge this if you want. i didnt want to take the other thread off topic)

I have a dumb phone on a family line that was eligible for an upgrade and another phone that was eligible a few months later. Used the upgrade from my line to upgrade the other line to buy an iphone to sell. Was not charged the full price and the other line kept it's upgrade.

that answer your questions?
