In these cases, United Economy in the same award type must be confirmed, and the front cabin will be waitlisted. For example, a Saver United First award must be confirmed in Saver United Economy to be eligible for waitlisting. If the courtesy waitlist does not clear, it will expire 24 hours before itinerary departure, and you will automatically be added to the airport upgrade standby list upon check-in. In these cases, you will be confirmed on a space-available basis by a United airport representative at the gate once the flight has closed for check-in. Boy this thread had gotten quiet.
It was never that busy.

TBH having successfully done plan B twice & failed miserably other times, unless you have connections at UA to get placed as a PR1 or PR2 it won't work.

Most agents are clueless with the procedure & will treat you as if you're lying,

It might be a published policy but for 99% of people it's unworkable

+1

I recently found myself in a situation to do that but wasn't willing to put up with the hassle.

Just booked B6 mint SFO to BOS for under 20k MR and I will earn points for flying. Who needs Plan B when you have plan A?

I'm looking at calling to do a Plan B on this flight. Is it possible if it's operated by non-united?

Anyone had this work on EWR->TLV for >2 business tickets? Do they generally have enough unsold seats for this to work with like 5 seats? (Looking for tickets in December)

I want to book an RT award using United Miles where the outbound flights are business saver award on Lufthansa metal and the return flight is a coach (non-saver) award on United metal.  The return flight is 70k in coach.  Can i do a plan B business saver award on that return flight? The plan B business saver award is the same price as non-saver coach award travel.  Any guidance or advice would be appreciated. thanks.

If waitlist doesn’t clear (what it would probably not)

Do I have anything to call after 24 hrs before flight? (Ticket number was booked out of a GS account)

TLV-EWR (Not 77W) showing Saver Y available to the public. No availability in J, public or expanded. Expert Mode shows J9 JN9. Flight is 3 weeks out. Hate to ask what are the chances. But...
Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

Yes.  Flew EWR-TLV in April using Plan B.  The seats didn't automatically clear to IN though when there was availability .  I was randomly checking availability on expert mode one morning and saw that they had space in IN and ended up calling.  Although I had to explain what I wanted done, and after a pause to speak to her supervisor, I was placed in biz without a problem

In my mind, there are two parts to plan B. 1st is getting wait listed for IN availability. Second is getting onto the PR-1 list that will get you pushed to the top of the upgrade list when it ces down to the wire.

The first part works as it should and is a good way to await an opening on tough flights.

The second part should work, but most report I've read seem to indicate that finding an agent to do it is close to impossible these days.

Does gg "onestandby" clearly state that a plan B ticket qualifies for PR-1on the upgrade waitlist?

(Or is this just based on logic that such a pax is technically a displaced biz class pax)

The real question is whether anyone has actually reported seeing it in person at all. Though I'm pretty sure that it does say that as that's what people refer agents to when trying to get them to put them at PR-1.

Hi,
I'm new to plan B.
Does plan b work only if there is a UA segment to the trip, only on UA operated flight, UA operated segment or any partner airline?

Can one do a plan B for a different flight?
