Whats a Desktop Deal:

There are many factors you need to take into account in order to make something a deal. Manufacturer, Product line, Specs and warranty are usually what to look at when figuring that out. You need to consider prices as well, sometimes you get a price so hot that it doesn't matter what company it is.

Generally speaking here are the guidelines for Intel processors:

i3 3rd Gen processor - Under $300 is usually a hot deal, Under $350 is decent
i5 3rd Gen Processor - Under $400 is a Usually a Hot Deal
i7 3rd Gen Processor - Under $600 is a Usually Hot Deal

to be continued....

I'm looking at the specs, but while I once knew what to look for, that is no longer the case.  I'm looking for a home-based machine that can handle multiple programs running including something heavier, like Publisher or similar Adobe program.  Otherwise, will use for net and word processing.  Don't need a monitor.

What specs matter?  Thanks much.

Is there a significant difference in performance levels and life expectancy between refurbs and new?

When I order for myself or clients, I would recommend checking the Dell Business Outlet Site. I would look specifically at the dell Optiplex Systems, these come with a 3yr warranty. although the business machines generally come with smaller hard drive you can still find great deals here and you get the extra security of the additinal warranty.
Here's the link to the dell business site Optiplex systems.

Nice specs. Think it's worth it for the basic user?
Warranty?
