What about Hyatt Curacao? Supposed to be amazing there.
I'd be happy to try to arrange a suite there for you on the cheap.
Checking it out now, but it is a little far with two kids (on vacation). It's 8 hours traveling time.

It's under 5 hours non-stop, but it looks like CO only flies there non-stop on Satudays now.

Turks & Caicos

If anyone is interested in an amzing but fairly quiet island, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos is definitely worth looking into.

I went with my wife and 8 month old baby two summers ago and we had the time of our life. We stayed at the Regent Palms, absolutely beautiful hotel, and was just renovated and upgraded before we came.

The beach is amazing, white powdery sand. There are other hotels that are more geared for children but we were so happy to have booked this one. We really felt that we were the only ones in the hotel.

I think I am settling on Grand Cayman. Is there a way you can get me a great deal there? the rooms are not expensive, just $169 a night, 5th night free. Maybe it is worth selling my Starwood points and buying this hotel with cash. This way I can get points for my stay

One more option I am looking at is Vieques Island, Puerto Rico. There is a W hotel that was recenetly remodeled and there seems to be great reviews.

Can you get a great deal on a W hotel?

Dan, still waiting to hear if you have any ideas about the island of Vieques in Puerto Rico? there seems to be a beautiful W hotel and want to know how I can get the best room for the least miles? I am a Starwood Gold member. Also, I think Continental flies all the way there.

This article on Vieques is enough to keep me away:
http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/02/01/vieques.illness.part.2/index.html?hpt=C2

So is the $65/night resort fee and the Cat. 6 designation.

Starting reading it and my wife will never let us go, is is a little freaky. I guess it's Grand Cayman for us. The Starwood hotel doe snot seem to be extremely nice, except for the Presidential suite - if there is a way to get that.

Has anyone ever been to Nevis? Is it worth going? I have a free house stay there (know somebody with vacation rental). Looking to go mid august (10-20) for some of that time? All the flights I saw from NYC were two stops and cheapest $650. Any way to get something better? I have 75k american miles but i don't think they fly there.
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Not sure about the island itself but looking at google maps, I'd say you are right in the path of most hurricanes. August is probably not a great time to plan travel there unless you book a few days before. That is just my opinion and something to consider.

Dan, I settled on going to Los Cabos and there is a beautiful Hilton there. Do you think you can get me a suite there and maybe you can pay switch points-spg for hilton. I am going from August 15 to August 19. There is a king premier suite which seems to be nice.

Thanks

Does anyone have any suggestions of where to go, either Puerto Rico or Aruba? (In PR looking at the El Conquistador and in Aruba looking at the Hyatt)

I am so confused - was planning on a trip to westin st. john but they are under construction so I think I will pass- looking for a quiet but really nice for a relaxing vacation and I am having a really hard time picking an island.  Also, what does everyone do for food?  I was hoping not to take any checked baggage but if I need to take all that food...
I would love to do Hawaii  but  if I fly 12 hours it's to Israel!

Hawaii doesnt have to be 12 hours, has infinitely more things to do than boring caribbean islands, and has tickets for less than half the miles or money that it costs to go to Israel.

And you can buy kosher food there as well.

i went to st thomas and had a really gr8 time there! it is very laid back and relaxed if u are looking for that i recommend  it. The atmosphere is really islandy if u no what i mean! there are the regular things aka beaches scuba snorkel snuba jetski etc etc. also really gr8 bars if ur into that type of thing. as for puerto rico also very nice we had what ammounted to a private beach and pool (we rented an apt in the fajardo area that was really empty)ocean water clear enough to see the bottom horseback riding kayaking hiking and a lot of other things. the el conqustidors grounds r nice the rooms r ok( i did not stay there just asked to c a room) casino is small. i say if u r looking for an islandy island then puerto rico is not as islandy as other islands but is still nice

I'm not familiar with the Caribbean, but beautiful deserted beaches are quite plentiful on the Hawaiian islands

Dan, did you go to the Caribbean within the past 2 years that you now know they are boring?  :)

Nope, but I've read travel books on the Caribbean and I can't say that I'm desperate to go.

People that come back from Hawaii are usually grinning from ear to ear...it's truly a special place, there's no other way to describe it.  The Caribbean might have nice beaches, but I don't think they can compare to everything Hawaii has to offer.

Just my 2 cents.

Have to agree with dan I was in kauai for a week and it was awesome! but that being said if ur on the east coast and only have 4 or 5 days to get away then hawaii is not really an option and the caribbean is conveniently close and also nice

If you can go from Sunday-Thursday you can do Hawaii from the east coast.  But less than that and you're correct.

You can arrive 2pm Sunday from NYC and depart 10pm Thursday.  I think that can be worth it, although I would recommend 8-10 days to see at least 2 islands.
Of course this really belongs in the hawaii thread...
