You can check your application status online here.

Barclay reconsideration line: 866-408-4064, Mon-Fri 8AM - 5PM EST.
The 24-hour number is (866-951-1437) 866-408-4064
New 24 hour number is 866-205-5973

Based on the phone reps, an application usually remains in the system for 90 days, during which you can ask for a reconsideration.
However, if 30 days have passed, it will incur another hard pull.

There have been a few reports of Barclay pulling credit again when reconsidering - even when specifically asked not to.
Make sure to explicitly tell the rep that you don't want another credit pull. The benefit of such action would be that if later you see they did pull your credit you can call up and speak to a manager and have the pulls removed (based on first-hand accounts from this thread).

If you want to guarantee that you don't get another pull, freeze your credit report.

While Barclay recon reps are usually very tough to deal with, there have been sporadic reports of them reconsidering by reallocating credit-line from other cards. Additionally, there are a few reports indicating success with the 3BM.

Barclay recon reps take notes of each phone call and subsequent reps usually regurgitate the previous rep's reply.

Random: see this great article about negotiating tactics with Customer Service Reps.

Is there any chance that an app that wasn't instantly approved will get approved on its own? (Without any phone calls to recon)

Yes, this is what it says:
Quote from: https://www.barclaycardus.com/app/japply/retrieve.do

Thank you for your recent application. We're in the process of reviewing the information you provided for your Barclaycard Arrival MasterCard application.

Please keep in mind it may take up to 10 business days to process your application. There is no need to reapply. If you provided an email address, we will send you an email upon review of your application. Please feel free to check back as this page will display the most recent status updates.

My question is if that's a nice way of them saying that I was declined (and i'll need to call recon), or if it means that its going to be manually reviewed and may actually still get approved (without a phone call) .

@shmulyg
Btw I was reading through this thread before and then decided to combine a few of your posts and start a wiki.

Feel free to fix it up/add info.

Many bloggers have reported yes, but truthfully, now a days I don't even trust them.

Yes, i understood your question. The reason i recommended checking the status online is because many a times (IME) they say pending but when you check the status right after it's already declined. This is what happened with my recent Arrival app. But if yours is still pending, i guess someone will actually manually review it. Still, your chances of approval are slim, IME.

I applied for two cards yesterday. Got the same message as you. One got approved today. Very low 5k limit. My first barclay cards. Other is still pending with 10 day message.

I got the generic message, but when checking the status a minute later, it said rejected.

Looks like their system cannot say the word rejected.

Well, if it were me I'd call.  At least worth a try. But like I said I wouldn't expect any positive results.

so just applied for the US Air card, and got instant approval. 5 minutes later applied for the arrival card, but got a notice that the application is pending and they will need up to 10 days for a decision. When i check the application status link, it also shows pending.

question is, should i call recon right now, or should i wait till theres a decision?

Thanks

They hate recently opened cards. I usually try to apply for Barclay cards after a biz AOR, so they don't see my recent cards. Just some advice...
