Topic Wiki

You can check your application status online here.

Barclay reconsideration line: 866-408-4064, Mon-Fri 8AM - 5PM EST.
The 24-hour number is (866-951-1437) 866-408-4064
New 24 hour number is 866-205-5973

Based on the phone reps, an application usually remains in the system for 90 days, during which you can ask for a reconsideration.
However, if 30 days have passed, it will incur another hard pull.

There have been a few reports of Barclay pulling credit again when reconsidering - even when specifically asked not to.
Make sure to explicitly tell the rep that you don't want another credit pull. The benefit of such action would be that if later you see they did pull your credit you can call up and speak to a manager and have the pulls removed (based on first-hand accounts from this thread).

If you want to guarantee that you don't get another pull, freeze your credit report.

While Barclay recon reps are usually very tough to deal with, there have been sporadic reports of them reconsidering by reallocating credit-line from other cards. Additionally, there are a few reports indicating success with the 3BM.

Barclay recon reps take notes of each phone call and subsequent reps usually regurgitate the previous rep's reply.

Random: see this great article about negotiating tactics with Customer Service Reps.

Okay. Thanx for the info. Will keep you posted.
Update:
Today - Two days later - and I was still getting the same message about the application still being reviewed.
So I called recon and the rep said the app was in the pending stage.

The first thing I did was ask her if she's going to pull my credit again.

Then she asked me some questions about income, and then why i've been opening so many accounts lately, and then approved with a $5k line!

Thanx everyone for help!

What was your reason?
Different cards have different benefits and features that the other ones don't have, and i'm trying out the different products to see what fits my needs etc. . .

I also threw in that the citi bank near me recently closed up, so those cards "lost the benefit" of a local branch.

And I forgot to mention in the last post, she also asked me about a late payment that she saw on the cc. I gave a valid reason and she was fine with it.

Just applied for barclays arrival and got a pending message.

Should I call recon or wait a day or two?

Is there any chance it will go thru on its own?

It's probably declined.

Check the status of the app online.

wow, Barclay Recon is just not working for me. 4 calls, 4 shutdowns.

I opened their US air card July 2012 and only spent 25 cents on it to get the bonus. fast forward 9 months , and i recently applied for another us air card (still have the old one open) and the arrival card. Both applications were denied online.

Called several times but none of the reps are willing to approve because they see that i have too many recent card approvals and that they need to see usage and payment history on the existing card before they can approve any additional cards. I offered to re-allocate credit from existing line, but thats a no go either. They are impossible to deal with, though very pleasent to talk to.

Yup.

A big part of the reason IMHO that many here are having problems with Barclays is that people aren't really spending on their cards because you don't have to and they told me too that they want to see me spend on their other card. They really look to see if you spend. They are on to the game.

Ok. I agree. Let's define often. May be once a year or max 2 times a year. If you start becoming greedy, then they will not allow. United ca. Be done 4 times a year easy.

I just want to make sure I am understanding this right - you can churn the Chase United card?  I've never heard about this.
Thanks.
