Did anyone had issues with lulav through security? agricultural regulation in china? lulav being longer that the standard carry-on size?

No experience. However, I am aware the the Landa family (Rav of Bnei Brak) often take short lulavim, as they are less prone to getting damaged. Might not be what you're accustomed to, but could be ideal for travel. I myself cut my the lulav I buy at its base, nowhere near as short as the Landa's but it is definitely less prone to get hit and damaged at the tip.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

No. Yesterday we marked on the calendar exactly 4 months to Simchas Torah. People are getting ready. Is was also שבת מברכים תמוז, and many know the ר"ת of תמוז, which can only remind us of Sukkos coming right after...

I have flown a few times with a Lulav and like mentioned previously, I would cut the bottom to make it the smallest kosher size (I would ask for a lulav with the shortest shedra, (final leaf split) measure down 32cm (according to R' AC Naeh's shiur of a tefach=8cm) and leave an extra cm or two to be extra safe, then place it in a post tube and keep with me. (I flew MEL-LAX-JFK, needed it in LAX to bentch) I didn't specifically declare it by customs, but did check the box declaring food including fruits and plants, they put my bags, including lulav and esrog through the scanner and said nothing, at the time, I noticed quite a few daled minim confiscated on the table behind me, so I guess others weren't as lucky as me that time round.

I know its early in the season, but i will be in EY next week. Any idea if i can get an esrog anywhere near Yerushalayim (i.e. plantations or wholesaler who has already harvested)? If I'm successful in finding one are the travel restrictions on fruit being brought back to the US applicable? Do I / Can I declare it and have it inspected?
Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

If you cut off the bottom Lulav to the minimum size (13 inches?) doesn't it fall apart?

Judging by the number of people who do it, apparently not.

If you do that make sure you know what you are doing. It needs to be 13" of shedra not from the tip. Also you need to have the hadasim and aravos a tefach below the top of the shedra.

Everything I see mentioned here on the topic is extremely vague, people just mentioning an idea. No tips or clear ideas.
I doubt it’s a standard “chop off the bottom half of any type of Lulav” cutting that is being suggested.

Not sure why 5hings need to be chopped. I just invest in a great travel case. Has a strap to go on my shoulder, a nice plastic rod to keep it upright, and a place to secure the esrog box.

Best lulav tip I heard- I use it every time and it never failed me: I went to Lowes and bought an L shaped molding that was longer than the Lulav (they cut it down for me for free). Then I put the Lulav into the molding, and secure it with pull-ties (the plastic ones that you pull to tighten and need to cut them to remove). I then put it into a standard plastic case just for the handle. I bought the molding many years ago and it still works, though it is relativly cheap, so you can throw it away each year if you want.
