Not sure what exactly you mean, but if you need some itinerary help I'll gladly do so...

Thailand is a must, you can go to some neighboring countries for some interesting experiences (Laos, Cambodia...)

China is nice, HK is interesting...

What are you looking for?

The problem in Thailand is mostly confined to Bangkok... I would skip it all together... Thailands nicer parts are up north (Chiang Mai/Rai), south they have some great islands (Phuket, Samui, Ko Tao etc..) all those places are perfectly safe, and you can get flights in and out of many of those destinations.... (phuket is probably the best bet...)

If I were you, I'd try to incorporate some or all of these into your trip:

1. Beijing (St. Regis)
2. Singapore (St. Regis or new Marina Bay Sands)
3. Langkawi, Malaysia (Four Seasons)
4. Chiang Mai (Mandarin Oriental)
5. Macau (Venitian)

I have been in around Asia several times and for the most part, those have been my favorites. If you are interested in something a bit more exotic, try the Maldives and Sri Lanka. These places are a lot easier to access than you think. Places like Hong Kong, Tokyo & Bangkok will probably be suggested to you as well, but are more business oriented and don't really have much for tourists. If you'd really like to see them, try and use them as Shabbos stops and use Friday and Sat. night to tour. Hong Kong is especially good for that type of short weekend.

4. Chiang Mai (Mandarin Oriental)

That place is unbelievable!! never stayed just seen it... were u able to find decent rates? The best I could see is $450 a night... so I opted for the Meridien at $70...

for the ones not convinced, here a clip: http://cnn.com/video/?/video/world/2010/04/23/damon.thai.civil.war.fears.cnn

I didn't bother watching... there is civil unrest confined mostly to small portions of Bangkok... your reaction is similar to peoples reactions after seeing violent clips from the west bank/e. Jerusalem/Chevron etc... and decide that travel to Israel is dangerous (mostly with a state dept. warning...)
Everyone should decide for himself that's all I'm saying. I have friends there now who are perfectly comfortable and safe.

Yes, they usually have it available for $299 and the 3rd night free. Place is unreal! When I was there in August of 08', resort was empty and we had at least one of the pools to ourselves. There's something amazing about being able to press a button and have a horse and carriage come pick us up from our villa and take us to the pool. Chabad of Chiang Mai also has pretty good, extremely cheap food

israel asked its ctizens not to go there, and the israelis arent the type of country that panic so fast.

there could very well become a full civil war.

There is keeping your cool, and being stupid.

Is it safe for a frum-looking Jew to go to those places?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I look very Jewish and had no problem at all. They even asked me about Israel and told me how they wish that they could go there one day. Unlike Europe, which is drenched with Jewish blood, Asians harbor no hatred toward us. it's pretty simple. They don't know what Jews are

The Israeli Foreign Ministry only does that to cover themselves in case something does happen. And plus, Bangkok is really the only place of concern. I'd have no problem with going to the North or South.

1. Beijing (St. Regis)
2. Singapore (St. Regis or new Marina Bay Sands)

Langkawi is on the Andaman sea where July/August is monsoon season, although it doesn't usually rain everyday and all the day, you will usually have a rainstorm every day for an hour or more... so not great weather snorkeling and scuba isn't either a great option.

In thailand you have Ko Samui (an island) which isn't affected by the Monsoon season and off of there you have amazing sites... hate sharing them but look up Ang Thong Marine National Park (http://images.google.com/images?client=safari&rls=en&q=ang%20thong%20national%20marine%20park&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi).... Ko Phangan.. and more..

Another advantage with Thailand you have Kosher food available in 4 Cities for very cheap prices... all run by chabad and cost is offset for backpackers (So leave a donation..) The 4 cities are Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Phuket and Ko Samui...

Macau is like vegas, so not sure if it's worth visiting.. What you said about HK I would say partially applies to Singapore as well.
my 2 cents....

In general people there are lovely, and walking around as a Jew is totally cool (even with a beard and tzitzis!! ;-)

Agreed! but I am taking my fam there soon... there's an amazing aquarium Ocean World which unfortunately is temporarily closed due to unrest...

The Floating market is great, and shopping can't be beat...
