Far Rockaway/5 towns is bursting with young families. And a huge mix of backgrounds.
Seemed like he doesn't want a melting pot.

think Edison might fit the description you looking for
Edison is yeshivish? Maybe the small Agudah is, but overall the community is more modern / melting pot. Even the "yeshivish" school Shaarei Tzion is full of more frum, modern kids.

I'm curious about this too. A fairly yeshivish family from my neighborhood is moving there, and I was a bit surprised based on what I thought Edison is like.

Can someone do a pros/cons of Passaic?

Im looking for a younger yeshivish working community. Guys who are black hat white shirt type but went to work. Something on the East coast that's not a huge melting pot. I live in Lakewood now and I think Jackson is okay except that it runs off Lakewood infrastructure and I would rather my kids come out more well rounded than what I think the Lakewood schools will offer. My wife works as SEIT/P3 teacher (so she would be looking for such a job there)
and I work online.

I keep thinking that Passaic might be the answer. Is that a correct assumption? Where are the younger (upper 20's) guys going neighborhood wise and is housing halfway affordable? Any suggestion would really be appreciated.

Thanks!
Clifton has a bunch of nice neighborhoods in it. Although chestnut ridge may have more of the "yeshivishnes"

I'm from Passaic. You can expect to pay 250k-600k for a house, The community is super nice and friendly. Property taxes are a killer (10k-20k), great public transportation to NYC. You'd probably do well at Agudah which is on the border with Clifton. Insurance is high, taxes are high, tuition is average. Kosher restaurant situation a bit weak (we had a Chinese place that closed down, 2 pizza shops, a bagel shop, and a meat restaurant). Kosher groceries are relatively expensive.

@Dan, waiting on your post about how NYers can't handle snow and freak out over minor storms.

Maybe if the streets would get plowed in a timely fashion and people would shovel their sidewalks we'd be able to handle it

Exactly my point.

Snow is just not a big deal for us at all. It is a big deal in most other places.

Still waiting for you to say how NYC gets it so much worse than the Midwest.

Not sure how the Midwest (and CLE in particular) would handle it with the size, and population density of NYC.

Does that satisfy your need?  ;)
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Storms don't take down your power lines?

The NY/NJ area does not know how to effectively deal with snow. They don't have the infrastructure and the storms are so erratic year to year that it's really hard to plan.

There have been many feet of snow dumped on us, but no power outages this winter.

It's not a question of population density, just how it effects your daily life.

FYI, the power outtages were for 60 mph winds that knocked down trees and caused cars to crash on utility infrastructure. The day with the significant power outtages also had under an inch of snow accumulation in most places. Snow doesnt typically knock down power alone.
