a little more details can yield better results. Is it for one room, an entire house?
are you looking for a permenent job, or only temp?
indoor? outdoor? car? home? office?

would an open computer/laptop with skype do the trick?

how about a camera hidden in a smoke detector?

I am interested in purchasing a nanny cam. I guess one room would be fine as we have a small apt. This would be temporarily until we feel comfortable with our lady. We are thinking of lending it out as a gemach afterwards so we are willing to pay a little more to buy a higher quality one.
All input would be appreciated
TIA! :)

Dropcam.com - they actually had a sale for $100, not sure if its still available. Very easy, plug-n-play to set up.

Is it legal to film someone without letting them know they're being filmed?

In public, yes. In private, no.
AFAIK.

So nanny cam would be a no go unless installed in a blatantly noticeable spot?

thanks! darn I missed out on a good deal..
Are these cameras easy to conceal?
It seems like they are wireless which is great

What's the problem with displaying a camera in a prominent visible place where the nanny can see that there is a camera?
Isn't the whole purpose here that she act responsibly where seeing a camera will take care of that?
Or is the point that CH"V she should act irresponsibly and then she can be "caught in the act"?

Even If I was doing a good job I wouldnt want someone watching me 24/7.. And no, we dont suspect her of doing anything wrong. Like I said originally we just would like to get an idea how she is with the kids when we are not around. As soon as we are comfortable we plan on giving it out to be people who would like to have the same piece of mind.
I am curious though to what the legal aspect of this is? any lawyers out there wanna fill us in (or someone knowledgeable on the subject)

I don't understand how any one who hires a nanny would not have a cam..  I'd think its a must.
Did we forget the nanny incident in Manhattan a few months ago?

I hear. But I also feel that if I feel this big need to have a nanny cam it's not the nanny I'd want.

But yes it's always safe to check up on people especially when they are watching young children.

We just want to be able to see our son. It's not to check up on babysitter.

Hard to understand what you wrote, but anyways I get your point.
Saying "if I'm having such doubts that I need to install surveillance, it's not the nanny I want" makes a nice very cute Vert'l that perhaps you can repeat at Melave Malka, but in real life, no matter who it is, you just never really know.  She can be the nicest Mexican senorita you've ever met, but you didn't grow up with her.  Look, If you're talking about a Beis Yaakov girls (as nannies), then I can totally understand your statement and concern, however much to my dismay, generally speaking AFAIK that doesn't seem to be the current situation on the ground.

That nanny in that horrifying incident in Manhattan was described as "such a kind, gentle lady" bla bla.

No kidding!  But in order to do X, you need to do Y.

I guess I just happen to not be the kind of person who would hire even the nicest mexican lady.

And as for the story in Manhattan, I don't know that a nanny cam would have helped. Was there ever an update on the story?  Was she mentally ill? Mad about something? Etc?
