Crediting miles to a different account
« on: May 10, 2010, 01:58:01 AM »
I'm sure this has been discussed before but I couldn't find anything doing a search.

My little bro has a bunch of MP miles that expired. United has a challenge whereby if in the first year after expiration you pay $199 and fly r/t they will recredit the miles. The issue is that my brother won't be flying in that period and is not old enough to be MRing. So I was wondering, is it possible when I fly to put in his MP#, he'll get the miles and then subsequently the expired miles as well.
Any input would be appreciated.

how many miles were in the account? is it even worth it? did you try speaking to a manager to reinstate it without paying?

Its almost 70,000 so I think it is worth it. I spoke to about 5 people at United and they all said the only way to get them reinstated is by doing the challenge.

Ive seen miles sometimes get credited through and sometimes denied by different carriers.
I suspect that if the flights are actually on United, the likelihood is less that his number would stick to your ticket.

As always YMMV
