status matching using virgin atlantic gold & bmi silver
« on: May 17, 2010, 01:04:06 PM »
hey, this is for all those who took advantage of the 2 great (in fact too great to be true) offers for virgin atlantic gold and bmi silver which are expiring soon. I sent a screen shot from both programs showing I had gold and silver in an email to continental and they status matched me to gold elite which is very beneficial. has anyone succesfully status matched to any other airline using those 2 programs? also can I use my onepass gold elite to status match to any other airline?

so far  gold medallion on delta they never sent me an email even just fax your info to them, I checked my account a week or so later and there it was. I also got Premier Executive status with united for 90 days here's the letter they sent. I don't know if I would do Continental just because you'll never be able to match again with this account and I dont need it now.

 Hello Mr. xxxxx,

Congratulations! You have been awarded Premier Executive status in the
Mileage Plus program! This will make your travel with us comfortable, simple
and more rewarding than ever.

Your status will be effective for 90 days. Your 90 day time frame will be
May 16, 2010 through August 14, 2010. To remain a Premier Executive member
for 2010, you will need to fly 15,000 paid flight miles or 20 flight
segments on qualifying flights* within that 90-day timeframe.

If you meet the above required paid flight miles or segment threshold, a
Premier Executive kit will be issued and mailed to you. Until you have a
card, be sure to add your Mileage Plus number to your reservation in order
to fully benefit from your elite status.

*Qualifying flights: Purchased flights operated by United or United Express.
Flight(s) must be a United flight number. Flights on other airlines do not
qualify for this offer. Flights on United that have a partner's codeshare
flight number do not qualify for this offer.

Premier Executive status can be earned each year by flying 50,000 Elite
Qualifying Miles (EQM) or 60 Elite Qualifying Segments (EQS) between January
1 and December 31 of each calendar year. You earn EQM and EQS by flying on
qualifying purchased flights on United and United Express and the Star
Alliance members. For a current list of Star Alliance member airlines,
please visit www.united.com/staralliance or www.staralliance.com.

For details about the Mileage Plus elite program, visit
www.united.com/elite. Mileage Plus members are only allowed to earn elite
status through the Elite Status Match program one time.

I hope you will travel with us often and experience the exceptional service
and style reserved for our elite members around the world. Thank you for
choosing United, and enjoy your Premier Executive membership.

So you sent just a screen shot from your online account and they matched it? Can't anyone photoshop that to add their name? And btw, do you have any miles with either of those programs?

I status matched my bmi silver to United Premier and completed their task of flying 7500 miles in 90 days to keep it for the rest of the year. As I have now switched my flying to United, I should be able to keep it year to year.

The biggest benefit is automatic domestic upgrades based on availability but also you don't have to pay for bags, have economy plus if there is no first available, and can bypass many of the pain in the neck airport lines (check in, security, boarding etc.)

Why would it be too late? I would imagine that they wouldn't even look at the BMI expiration date too closely but even if they do, it definitely can't hurt you to try...

How long is the Continental status good?
If you match before 06/30/10 then only until 02/28/11, if you match after 06/30/10 then until 02/28/12.

True but then a person is gonna have to 1- not be like me and interested in maintaining Top Status 9which I keep forgetting most on DD arent interested in any way)

2- that they can get it down to a science how many miles they will have in the acct so as not to have any more then they will actually come to use, which isnt always easy to accomplish

Why can't you get top-tier status via matching? You definitely can on CO. Or with SPG/Hyatt, etc.
See we all also want top-tier status, we just want it without paying $$$$.

And accounts can always be merged later on...

well UA and AA from what I know wont Top Comp,CO does depending on which other Carrier you have TOP with. But I understand the game playing but I also know a # of people who tried by switching addresses etc etc and CO still found them out, not saying they will get everyone But I have no probs earning it the hard way with BIS. Besides if a person isnt going to be flying all over why bother

same with SPG the past few yrs it could have been had with 13 stays at a min. Next weekend in LA should throw me off now 5 stays if I can get somewhere tommorrow night at $69. So 3 for 1 free weekend  and earning a nice amount of pts isnt so bad.No sense having a Million $$$ is all your gonna do with it is keep it locked up and every so often look at it = no sense having Top Level if it wont be used on a constant basis,IMO
