Just trying to understand what is Avis preferred worth, or rather why is it worth something?
Just signing up with a airline, or just signing up for a spg account, doesn't get you anywhere, so why should simply signing up for plain Avis membership, cause you to get a upgrade or whatever? After all, everyone can do so?

Preferred in the US lets you skip the line and go straight to our car because your CC and insurance prefs are on file.

well OK thats if U consider an UP to be say a 2 door Malibu to a 4 door Malibu which has been played many a time. But there are less 2 door cars today then yrs past where the manufactor makes it both in a 2 & 4 door model

But they wouldn't give you a upgrade from c to d, or d to e, for example?

they dont have to! besides they will have the 2door as a C and the 4 door as a D (using your cats). for the US better put is a 2 door might be a midsize and the 4 door version a full size) C D E are for outside the US

BTW I had this happen to me at ORD twice a couple of yrs ago

In Israel U wont really run into this but they can and will give you a really beaten up car with tons of kms on it or the  nicer car for the cat you actually reserved for, it all depend with whom you are dealing when U get there and their mood that day. When I had Avis First 1 time I changed cars 4 times in 1 day, between 3 locations. and that was with being able to drop a name. You cant reserve a specific car name so as much as you might say a Mazda3 you can get a Suburu and cant do anything about it. they can give U a hatchback and you are stuck. I hate any car w/o a real trunk as U cant hide what U have in it and its a better chance it will be broken into and say goodbye to whatever you have in the car be it in Israel or here in the US

What I find very funny is I have to go p/u my rental from Hertz soon and when I booked it the Economy was $1.50 more per day then the compact. So Im hoping they will give me the Aveo instead and you guyS are trying to book Aevos and end up with Caddys or Jags or convertibles

So tachlis, for a Israel rental, is there anything (at all) to gain by signing up for Avis membership? If there is any reason at all, I will do so, but if there nothing to be had, then why bother.  ?

well as long as it doesnt cost anything you have nothing to loose and just might get an Upgrade be it in Israel or elsewhere, so why not sign up
