Yup.

Makes sense for him just to keep buying miles and miles.  Note he doesn't say how he "earned the miles for a trip" just how many he uses.

Some enterprising fellow should check all his TR's and add up the miles used. Then figure out how many miles he would have from CC signups. Any "missing" miles would be what he likely bought.
