I stayed at the W downtown recently. Can't speak for the suites but compared with the Andaz 5th ave, (where I did get a suite) its - well there's no comparison. The Andaz has a very sophisticated and sleek feel. All amenities are free, except alcoholic beverages. Wifi is free too, which means you are getting premium benefits even without being a plat/diamond member.

At the W a bag of chips will cost a fortune. Uptown is also much more elegant and clean, while the W overlooks the WTC which is fantastic, if you get a room on that side. It's a construction zone and the streets are dirtier.

Our suite at the andaz came with a dishwasher! It was spacious (btw it was a free upgrade) light and roomy. The room at the W was very tight.

The one advantage of the W was the amazing Bliss spa soaps. If you end up there get as many as you can. I just ordered a full size facewash after trying it out there and it cost $30 on sale!
Work is what you do between vacations.

Why is it that when I check the box of "SAVE UP TO 50% THIS HOLIDAY SEASON" the points rate go up?
For example: the Hampton Inn Manhattan/Times Square South is regular 40k, but withe the promo its 94,920 points?

I had a similar experiance on the SPG site yesterday. The rates in Venice at the westin were 160 euro and when I went to the special limited promotions which were soon expiring the rate went to 186 euro.  :o

A house car is available, free of charge although tipping is recommended, for up to 10 blocks. I took it for 2 avenues.

Plus $75 diamond brekkie credit.

I am looking for a nyc night getaway in the end of January with SPG or Chase UR points.
I would like to stay in a nice hotel and for under 15000 points. Any ideas of what the best way about it and place to stay?

Thanks

You'd be surprised, but very few nice hotels in NYC. Very disappointing for a city that prints tourist dollars
