1. With an attitude like this they'd never go
2. They are already going this weekend, what does this accomplish?
1. I'd have a much different attitude about going in the summer. Why would such an attitude mean they'd "never" go?
2. I'm curious to know. Perhaps they're very excited for the possibility of rain and the added adventure and don't think it would take away from the fun at all. And perhaps they would explain to me that Kalalau doesn't often disappear in the winter as opposed to other beaches like Hanakapi'ai.

here's a list of stuff for now (i'll probably remind myself more stuff soon)

Backpack
Mosquito Repellent
Water Filter
Trekking Poles
Travel Towel
Sleeping Pad
Tent
Headlamp
Portable Charger
Water Bottle
Sunscreen

Food is still TBD
Forgot to add the Multitool
& Sleeping Bag Liner
as for food, who can forget these free delicious energy bars that i'll be attempting to force down my throat  ;D

If using both sunscreen and repellent, apply sunscreen first and wait 30 minutes before applying repellent.

Is this really a good idea in the winter? In terms of rain ruining the trail or your fun and making it dangerous as well as the tide eating up Kalalau Beach.
Look, its not like there's drastic changes in the weather between summer & winter as you well know, we're talking about stronger currents on the north shore. In terms of the trail being closed theirs always that risk, although it hasn't been closed in the past few months.
An added benefit of doing the trail in the winter is that there's less people on the trail & no one boating or kayaking in to kalalau beach, most importantly these dates worked for us.

Btw, that book's purpose is just to scare you to death.
Idk how much I'd recommend it for someone considering the trail

I've been doing a bunch of research on something like this for a while, I may as well share my info...

For starters, you can't do the whole ANC-SEA or VV run. You need to split it up in JNU.

Secondly, window seats sell out incredibly early, so get booking.

It could also be had quite cheaply on points, but if you want a 24h layover on the route anywhere other than JNU you need to book rev over the phone.

There are actually three separate milk run routes, and some are more interesting than others. IMO AS64/65 is the best, due to the PSG-WRG segment. The plane skims the top of the mountains during the incredibly short flight, and the views are crazy.

Red: AS61/66
Yellow: AS64/65
Green: AS62/67 (FAI SB only)
Click the link below for the full routes, as in the map some routes are obscured by others.

Is the posted idea of the run plus the national park feasible in 48-60 hours from "door to door"? Not talking about ideal time but doable in a way that one can enjoy both.

I know you want to spend 3 months in the park. We can't all be on the clock when going there though :P

Lol. But still no. You need to position in SEA, wait for the milk run (whose timing does not necessarily match up), fly JNU-ANC, then bush plane into Katmai. That in itself could take two days.

Even if you play around with the different run routes and directions, you still spend entire days in transit.
