Why would anyone use them now?  In Yerushalaim at least, most places it's easy to flag down a cab and save 5 shek, and  several companies let you order without the surcharge.

Bummer. 

I'll still use them out of Yerushalayim though.   
Easy to call a cab. Generally better cabs than ones you flag down IME. And no need to pay Cash. Still makes it simple.

You could usually work out a cheaper fixed price in advance.

How'd you do that? I put my referall code on nice orange business cards with instructions in Heb and Eng and got them out everywhere in Jerusalem and I only ended up with like 150 shekel of credit :)

Their credit for signing up with a referral code is pretty great.... 20 shekel off 5 rides. I thought the business cards would be a huge hit but they were quite a failure :(
