Combining differnt types of points to get a family to Israel
« on: December 30, 2012, 05:45:36 AM »
Help!!!

I'm trying to take a family of 5 to Israel in August.

I have 150K BA;  150K UR; 70K SPG; 32K united; 25K MR; 50K southwest

I saw a united non-stop RT for 135K and $45 each. ( So I would need 675K united points.)

I'm totally at a loss of what I can do to use the points I have to maximum advantage.
(I realize I may have to quick open some more cc's for more points.)

Is there a common point currency I can transfer them all to? I suppose I can split us up and fly on two separate flights.

Can anyone please take the time to give me some guidance?

Thanks

Sell all your points and buy tickets. That's one option.

I did it with nine people but I booked 10 months in advance. Selling points will  be easiest at this point. You can check availability for the alliances you have points for and then figure out what combinations make sense.

You should also check for two people at a time, not five. I just saw several decent stops leaving NYC on July 7.

Your BA points will come with a fuel surcharge unless you find availability on Air Berlin.

One special thing about the united award ticket I found was that the return was BusinessFirst for 60K.  I'm thinking of trying to get that for the whole family coming home.  32k united; UR 1:1 146K;  gives me 178K.  So I'm short 122K.

If both my adult kids open new united cards, (and get approved)  I get 30K each, or 60K.  Any of my other stuff help?

United Explorer card is offering 50k miles.  Deposit some points into your united account and you should see the offer.

This is might help you...
