Israel DOT rules
« on: January 03, 2013, 04:40:34 PM »
I actually just made use of it.
Would you belive DOT rules in Israel are better and stricter in Israel? they have a law that if you purchase a ticket with a departure from Israel, you can cancel within 14 days of booking and further than two weeks of departure, you only pay a maximum of 100 shekel. quite cool.

Interesting, are all airliners (including international) bound by this rule?

How about award bookings?! ;)

Every airline flying servicing TLV is in theory governed by Israeli aviation laws.

The same is international airlines are bound to EU laws in Europe etc.
But the ticket has to be booked in Israel.

I would advise calling them and asking for exact instructions, where to write etc 00972-3-7960700
must be within two weeks, and more than a week before flight.

Bump!
I think these laws should be brought to attention once again as there seems to be very little knowledge around here regarding this topic.

And something that wasn't mentioned above is that the cancellation fee up to 14 days after booking is 100nis or 5% - the lesser of the 2. (And I believe this covers complete packages - not only flights).

I don't know where this is mentioned, but I believe that IL law also requires FREE cancellation until midnight of the day of booking (not 24 hrs).
A friend f mine just booked a ticket on the Alitalia IL site with the current sale, and the next day the date of the chasuna they were flying for was moved up by a day. He called Alitalia and asked how much it would cost him to change and they said $150. He asked what it would cost him to cancel and they said $26! So he just cancelled and re-booked on the correct dates.
