When the light didn't go on, I initially thought he must've missed it wide on a hopping puck, bec. there was no chance he was saving it.

The puck was going into the middle of the net until Holtby made an amazing save.
So you can claim in hindsight that he should've elevated the puck even though the net was empty. But then you're ignoring that the puck was bouncing like a basketball and he didn't have a clean shot unless he waits until the puck settles and Holtby is in position. You try to elevate the puck and it wobbles off his stick over the net and that's just embarrassing. You have a simple easy shot, you take it and don't try to be fancy.

Watch it in slow motion. Puck was on edge and laid flat on his stick. Does not get any easier to elevate the puck in that situation.
No hindsight needed when it is SOP to elevate the puck on an open net like that. What O's one timers on rolling pucks and watch where he puts the puck.
Yes it was a good save but just like LBJ's "block" it happens all the time.

Post a pic of the puck on his stick like I said. It laid flat (on his stick not the ice) as he took the shot. It doesn't get any easier to elevate the puck in that situation.

There's no good view of his stick unless you want a blurry pic of the puck not cleanly on his stick, attached.
Regardless, if you see the puck bouncing to you, even if there's a small chance it might land cleanly, you don't take chances that it will bounce over the net. Just get the puck in the net.

In hindsight of course he should have elevated the puck but at the moment I think he did the right thing, it did look like it was bouncing and with the net wide open he just needed to put it in, but Holtby made a great save. Is it save of the year? I dont know, there are a handful of unbelievable saves that I can remember from this year but it is not comparable to the moment of this save.

Either way, if the first 2 games are any indication we are in for a great SC finals
