Rooted My Android, What's Next?
« on: March 05, 2013, 03:35:33 AM »
I rooted my HTC One X yesterday using this all in one toolkit.
The main reason for that is to be able to increase the sound with this.

I am interested to hear what you guys did after rooting.

Where should I get my free apps from?
What are the coolest things to do with a root?

Any input will be appreciated. :)

You don't need to root to get free apps... The main point of rooting is to enable backing up.

You don't need to root to get free apps

I know that it's possible to download .apk and then install, but I was told that there are app stores for rooted devices.

AFAIK the free app store doesn't require rooting. You can pretty much find any .apk by searching Google.

It doesn't seem to have helped. :( Can anyone recommend a different sound boost.

Never rooted, but I would say:

  • getting rid of google and OEM garbage
  • making device faster
  • installing unsupported languages like Hebrew
  • run custom ROMs

  • getting rid of google and OEM garbage - Thanks :), (how do I do that?)
  • making device faster - same as 4
  • installing unsupported languages like Hebrew - don't need that
  • run custom ROMs - which one?

Is there really no other way to back up the info, other than rooting?

HTC sync stinks and doesn't work.

Not with VZW.

The only reason I would root would be for backup purposes.
Is there really no good backup program without rooting though?

I'm pretty sure that in order to backup/restore the market links you need to be rooted.

What do you mean by "market links"?

Don't know if correct lingo but if you install an apk (sideload) it doesn't get linked to the play store..won't tell you about updates etc. Most non root backups just save the apk on the sd card and the restore is just to reinstall it..same as sideload. But with root you can have the market links restored too.
I use Super Backup

Sideloaded apps will be linked to Google Play, but if it's a paid app you won't be able to download updates from Google Play being that you didn't purchase it.

Sprint also doesn't give free WiFi tethering, and being that I have unlimited data anyway it's something that is very convenient. That's the main reason I rooted.
