Just buy a Canon with 720p recording like the excellent (and tiny) SD780IS.

I have the Sony hard drive camcorder and I think they are pretty good. Now you can get the HD and I am sure the quality is great. You just need to know how to really keep things organized when dealing with these since every time you click record/stop it creates a new file and it can get annoying.

I just got the Canon SD960.  A great camera with HD Video that beats the flip.  I think mono audio (as opposed to stereo) is the only downside.

The flip is not one of the best.  There is the sony webbie and my personal favorite the creative Vado.  The Vado has a nice wide angle lens, more storage for your dollar, some say better quality, comes with nice accessories, etc ...
