Hi,
You recently created or participated in a Split on GroupMe. Unfortunately, we had to cancel this Split due to signs of credit card network abuse, which is a violation of both GroupMe's and our payment processor's Terms of Service.
More info is below:
What:
The Split of which you were a member was canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. GroupMe takes credit card network abuse and fraud very seriously and actively investigates any suspicious charges with our payment processor, Balanced.
Why:
In our monitoring of our zero fee promotion for Split on GroupMe, we determined that some individuals tried to use the Split service to transfer money directly from their credit cards to their own bank accounts, most likely to collect credit card rewards and points. This form of usage is against both GroupMe's and Balanced's Terms of Service.
What this means for you:
The Split creator will not be issued a credit (i.e., will not be able to collect money contributed to the Split). Additionally, all Split participants who put money in will have the entirety of that amount refunded to their credit cards.
What to do next:
We sincerely apologize if this action was triggered by a legitimate use of Split to collect money from your friends for a purchase. If you have any questions, please contact us at support@groupme.com.
