1. Did you do the boatride by the fountains?
2. It's hard to beat free. Is there someplace that compelling that it's worth paying for when I can stay at the Fairmont for free?
3. Did you take a tour there?
1. Yes, very nice. Inexpensive so go for it.
2. Free is nice. It's also closer to everything that you listed than say, the PH. You'll easily save yourself 20-30 min of traffic if you travel during rush hr.

And one thing to note, DO NOT get ripped off into getting into a black taxi. The airport ppl are very sneaky and do a good job of hiding the fact that there are taxis that are 1/5 the price. I would venture to say it's one of the most common tourist mistakes

Taxis were cheaper than uber when I priced out PH to dubai Mall. Even the Hyatt private car/shuttle was cheaper than uber.

I just took the PH lexuses- they were a set fee and the best deal during Rush hour and could charge to the room

Landing in dxb at 12:10 pm, and departing the next day at 8:30am.

Is it worth it to even book an hotel, or just go back straight back to the airport and relax in the EK F lounge ?
Life is as good as you make it...

Burj khalifa "At the top" (floor 125) or splurge for "At the top sky" (floor 148)?

taxis are very reasonably priced and comfortable. Also, parking in the mall may be a pain, and IIRC its a huge parking lot. Wouldnt want to deal with finding my car or having to go back to that part of the mall

Your view wont be any more impressive for At the top, so I wouldnt do it. Once you are that high up everything is small, and I enjoyed the outdoor deck "at the top"

Parking is a pain, but not horrible.  I haven't rented a car since my first trip there and no complaints.

I'm glad we "splurged" for 148.  To each their own though.

Also, if you think NYC went overboard with their speed cameras, they have one like every 500 feet there on the main highway. Taxis are cheap enough and you're probably not going all over town anyway. Sticking to the few tourist spots should be cheap enough with a taxi.

I can't imagine it would make any sense to rent a car in Dubai. Especially if your flying Etihad or Emirates in first or business as they have chofer service. Even without it, as CZ60 mentioned the cabs are reasonably priced and the subway is pretty decent. The only thing you should never do is take one of the car services at the mall, they will tell you one price then cheat you off at your destination.

Just for a RT from DXB-AUH it seems much better off to rent a car. Not sure what I'm missing.

Boy, now that is one helpful Wiki!

Have 48 hours in DXB/AUH. Thoughts on the following?

Arrive DXB Monday at 8am.
-Checkin to Fairmont Palm
-Dubai Mall
-Ski Dubai
-Aquarium (worthwhile without kids?)
-Burj khalifa
-(Worth going to Burj al arab?)
-Fountains

Tuesday:
-Take a cab and bring luggage to Fairmont Bab Al Bahr
-Ferrari world
-Sheikh Zayed Mosque (Should this be timed to when a tour is being offered?)

Gosh the PH DXB is so nice via email, night and day from the Fairmont.
But is it worth spending $180+ when Fairmont is free?
Hmm...

Has anyone done this tour?
https://www.platinum-heritage.com/heritage-collection-desert-safari/heritage-falconry-and-wildlife-safari

Or what desert tours are recommended?
We did Arabian adventures but it was ~$100pp and took a while bec of the food so I wouldn't recommend to a kosher eating person. If you can find one without the food, it'll feel a lot shorter and more of what you want to do. Get one where you'll be in the desert for sunset. Surreal.

Seems like all the sunset ones include dinner.
