You can try making reservations from the travel agent on KZ's website for cheaper rates.

Or you can try the SR rates which are quite good in you don't mind canceling.

I plan on staying in Kowloon next shabbat and booked at the Hyatt regency. Just noticed now that there might be a slight issue with the stairs there. Anyone been there? Is it feasible or should we just go with the Sheraton? Thanks!

Most people who stay at the Hyatt take the elevator if they don't operate it. Stay at the Sheraton for super easy stairs.

We are travelling to Hong Kong for the first time in a month. I've gone through the thread and it's not clear where it's preferable to stay over shabbos: Kowloon or Hong Kong island. We would like to be able to walk around and take in the the sights during the day as much as possible, as well as have an opportunity to meet people.

Thoughts from the group?

IMHO in Kowloon you'll get the 'typical' Hong Kong experience.

HKI feels like a busy city without too much Asian flare.

There's a mall on the bottom floors with no stair access. Ask your LOR about using the elevators on Shabbat.

Advice for overnight in HK
« Reply #1894 on: July 27, 2017, 04:44:18 PM »
I will have a 15 hour overnight layover in HK coming up in Aug. This is my first trip to Asia. I know that 15 hours will not be enough time to really check things out here. If I want to get a flavor for HK culture, what would you suggest?

Some more info on my trip:

I am taking a trip to Japan for a few days. I will be taking the following routing: EWR-SFO-HKG-NRT;NRT-SFO-LAX-EWR. Flying all of the segments on UA except for HKG-NRT which will be on CX J. I get into HKG at 6:45 PM on UA869 and leave the following morning at 10:30 AM on CX520.

The only thing I know that I want to do is check out the CX lounges in HKG prior to my flight at 10:30. Outside of that I'm flexible. Also, I don't need to sleep too much there since I hope to sleep on the flight over.

What are my options and what would you recommend? Also, what hotel would be a good spot to freshen up?

Since it's an overnight connection in the summer you're better off just sleeping in the lounge. Sure, you could make the trek to town for a new hours, but you'll likely be tired and want to sleep, so it won't be worth it.

Being that I'm leaving SFO at 1:30 for the 14 hr flight, most of it will be night for me (based on NY time). I expect to sleep about half the trip. I imagine that after traveling for 22+ hours from NY that I'll want to leave the airport for a bit. I get that the time is a bit tight, but I don't expect to need much sleep for my overnight in HK.

15h is more than enough to see HK.

@momark , @Chuck2 , @Yehoshua and others:
Regarding the Hyatt Regency TST, do you think it's worth 6,000 points to splurge on the Club Room (with Club Lounge access) vs. 15,000 for regular room? (I have no status.)
