I've been using it quite a while - the following are the benefits I enjoy.
1. Getting the vmail transribed and texted to me - while not 100% accurate, gives me a good idea as to what the call was about - important, long or short - if theres a number left to call me back - 99% of the time its accurate - and tells me which caller left the message.
2. Getting vmails saved permanently - no deletion after 30 days like with vmail on phone
3. getting calls fowarded to my gizmo(cant get this currently) if i miss the call on my cell - my laptop rings and i can pik up the call from my computer.
4. A number that reaches me only during certain hours on my cell (u can make restrictions), but without paying for another phone line.

I wasn't interested in coming up with a new number, and wanted to keep mine. I like the voicemail features, but i'm missing out on some nice features like blocking a caller, or call screening.

yup - caller id will just have to be ur call screening if u dont want to use the voice number - but at least u get the vmail stuff.

sipgate looks interesting.....except they charge 1.9 cents a minute -
(not that its so much - but do u actually expect me to pay for something like this - its free with gv)

sipgate seems not to charge for incoming calls
and i got it to workon my cell phone (windows mobile)
using Fring (fring.com) (which is a great app, also gives me google talk-otherwise unavailable on WM, as well as skype)

no. will only forward to a US number

I have the Google voice app on my bold 9700. When i travel international i use it to send free text messages back to the USA .

I assume you can get incoming texts to your Google number too while international?
