Digital voice recorder
« on: March 19, 2013, 12:45:07 AM »
Any one know of a good quality digital voice recorder under $100. Also besides capacity, what are differences between them and what should I be looking for.  I need it to record lectures and student presentations.

Aren't those MP3 players? I meant a voice recorder that you can talk into.

They are mp3 players with a built in voice recorder. They lack some of the options that dedicated voice recorders have (like naming files, splitting files, etc). On the plus side, they're also mp3 players, with expandable memories.

IF  what you plan to record is important -- i would only buy new and be sure to get one with good quality listen back

+1
Also make sure it has the ability to connect to the computer via USB. Some of the older models Olympus recorders didn't have that capability.

I can personally recommend the Zoom H2 - records, plays back, names and splits files, saves to SD card, connects to computer with USB and is pretty reasonably priced for the quality it provides. Also you have the option to record in multiple formats - wav & mp3 in varying speeds, as well as mono, stereo and surround sound.
EDIT: I just checked the price on Amazon and oddly it's being sold now for an insane amount of money - $350 vs the approx. 150 I paid about 4 years ago. There seems to be an updated version called the h2n available for 180. It has good reviews, so do your research.

I personally do not like the 802 and would wait on the 900 series

no idea but should be soon the 700 is a lot better but there are some new perks in the 800 that are pretty cool but not fully developed

so wahts the problem it can only be better than the 700s. unless youre talking about the price, and its a waste of money and i might as well get the 700

I don't remember off hand it's been a year since I came up with this but in general with all olympus voice recorders it is only worthwhile to buy every other model

Get one of these top 2 best sellers, under $50. You probably have no need for anything else, so not worth spending more.

(Some Sonys are really good these days.)  http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/electronics/227758/ref=sr_bs_1
