i got an hp laptop a couple months ago and now when i try to turn it on all i get is a blank screen, anything to do?

Sounds like a bad screen or inverter. Since you bought it only a couple of months ago it should still be under warranty

ShareX, which is a really really good piece of software, doing screenshots, editing, annotation, GIFs, screen recording, uploading and much more.

Cool! I ditched ShareX because it got annoying that they wanted me to download an update every other day. Did you find a way around that?

They update about every two months, and each update comes with useful additions albeit subtle ones. But it is a simple setting in it to turn off automatically checking for updates.

External sound card: Is this a piece of junk, or would it work to replace my internal sound card? (If that indeed is what's been causing my lack of sound.)

I've used that one myself but you're assuming all of your usb ports are ok also

If your computer's USB port is USB 3.0, get a USB 3.0 hub so you'll have the speed you need if you use an external hard drive or flash drive.

Try reinstalling (without installation) from the Windows Add Printer Wizard.
