i got an hp laptop a couple months ago and now when i try to turn it on all i get is a blank screen, anything to do?
Sounds like a bad screen or inverter. Since you bought it only a couple of months ago it should still be under warranty

I'm not sure where you tried and which Illustrator version, but here's how it is for me:

I love the way you create how to gifs, it really helps people understand you.

How do I do that?  What price range are they?  Do you think that would solve the problem?

It's worth a shot, here's one for $16 - Amazon.com: StarTech.com 5.1 Channel PCI Surround Sound Card Adapter PCISOUND5CH2: Computers & Accessories
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Thanks!
It looks like it's worth trying.

Any other suggestions  to solve my problem? (The computer periodically not recognizing that the speaker is plugged in.)

ShareX, which is a really really good piece of software, doing screenshots, editing, annotation, GIFs, screen recording, uploading and much more.

Cool! I ditched ShareX because it got annoying that they wanted me to download an update every other day. Did you find a way around that?

They update about every two months, and each update comes with useful additions albeit subtle ones. But it is a simple setting in it to turn off automatically checking for updates.

External sound card: Is this a piece of junk, or would it work to replace my internal sound card? (If that indeed is what's been causing my lack of sound.)

Or any of the other really cheap small ones?

I don't mind getting updates, I just mind that it pops up in my face so often.

An off brand with zero reviews... I wouldn’t buy it. If you want external take something like this https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Aluminum-Headphone-Microphone-Computers/dp/B01L1H7VGQ/ref=zg_bs_3015427011_9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=FFS0Y598ZB1T7CWKZAKV

From my experiences, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.

If your computer's USB port is USB 3.0, get a USB 3.0 hub so you'll have the speed you need if you use an external hard drive or flash drive.

Trying to use Windows Fax and Scan program to scan from my Canon PIXMA MG3522, but it does not recognize the printer is a scanner...Any suggestions?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Have you installed the driver package from the manufacturer’s site?

Try reinstalling (without installation) from the Windows Add Printer Wizard.
