Double-click the top border of the Task Manager window to get the full Task manager like in my photo.

Resource Monitor also has the numbers for each category:

Nothing in here extraordinary that indicates why you're slow, but as you can see the RAM isn't even half used up.

Could it be my hard drive going bad . Gets
Noisy when running a few programs.

If not any other things to check ?
Have done scans , malaware bytes
Etc .

Other ideas ?

When I run Ccleaner it is slow to scan
But CPU never gets high usage ?

Should it ?

The hard drive is definitely a possibility but hard to say. I'm not sure there's anything to say without a full analysis of the device.

You can try booting in clean mode (all non-system services off) https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows and see if it is better.

I have an old laptop which hasn't worked in a while (I seem to remember it had hard drive issues). I found a brand new SSD lying around and figured I'd try to install linux on it. I installed the SSD, and put a bootable linux dvd inside. When I power on the laptop, the power light lights up and I hear the hard drive spinning, but the screen stays black.

Does that mean that there's something wrong with the laptop?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

I don't know the answer to your question, but an SSD doesn't spin or make noise.

Oh that's a good point! So maybe I'm just hearing the fan making noise.

Sounds like the issue is the RAM, try taking out all but 1 stick, and reseat the stick that you leave in, and see if it will boot then.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Windows 7 in the performance tab (more details when you open the Resource Monitor):

In Windows 10 on top of the list:

I did not even try running   that clean mode . I am afraid it is above my skills .

Today while scanning with Malaware bytes , it took over 1 minute to open a Firefox browser and the memory was at 2.67 out of 6 MB and the CPU stayed at 20% until the last few seconds .
Can you glean anything from that ?

Thanks

Nope.

Running clean mode is simple if you are following instructions exactly.

brand new dell inspiron  14 7000
everything is very slow. Per task manager, disk is running at 100% - But it jumps between system, and other items. never less than 100%  ::)

Any solutions?

I just donwloaded and installed onedrive, google backup, office, adobe pro, and 7 zip.. (one drive was trying to sync a lot of files, so I uninstalled. didnt improve..)

Any cloud backup service (dropbox, onedrive, google backup, etc) without an ssd, will use a lot of disk, especially at the beginning.  Always recommend SSD if you're using those things.

Hmm.. is it a big deal to install a SSD? And cost?

Sometimes when I adjust the volume on computer the volume jumps significantly higher or lower. Any clue how to fix?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Trying to convert a QBO file to desktop.. it is automatically saving it here C:\Users\CBC\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Virtualized\C\Users\CBC\Desktop\qb file

How do I get it to save on my actual machine somewhere that it can be found and used? Also, how can I get it out of this file location and copy to desktop?
