Email Fax
« on: July 08, 2010, 07:30:29 PM »
I signed up a few years back for MyFax, which gives you a fax number and then sends them to your email address as .pdf files. They then sold it to some other company and now I am having problems.
I receive faxes fine but when I try to send a fax to myself via my own fax machine, it never goes through. I called them up and they said that I am transmitting too slow. Anyone know anything about that? I am using an HP Laserjet M1522nf and I am using a internet phone line via Optimum Online

Thanks

In addition to the fax service or replace it? I am paying only $4/month for the service

Yes, it is. Is there anything I can do other than changing to a landline?

google for efax and a whole bunch come up.
I just tried it with the 2nd number they gave and it did work. im trying with the origanal number now and so far its not working.
whats funny is that the trail says that that the sending fax number is my origanal number (the one that I have the problem like you) and caller id is my home number and the recieving fax is the 2nd number they gave me.
in other words the way their system is doing it is by forwarding it from the 2nd temp number they gave me to the origanal number. very odd but at least now its finally doing something

MyFax gave you the second number? I can just call them and they will give it to me?

I had this same problem with faxing over a VoIP line to my own MyFax account. The solution seems to be setting your fax machine on international mode where it sends it a different way. I believe that MyFax can actually switch your account to a different server which will work a little better. Let me know if you guys had success and what you told them, so I can try that for myself.

The ma'ala of MyFax is that for $10 a month you get incoming AND outgoing (I just fax to 7185555555@myfax.com from a registered email address and they send the fax through). With pfax, which I think it only $3 or $4 a month, you only get incoming. I personally need SOME outgoing so I went with MyFax.

im trying to understand. i assume most people here have a printer. which probably means you also have a fax machine. i cant figure out why its worth 10/month for this service then. whenever you need to fax, move the cord from the phone to the fax machine?

On my old Brother fax machine there was a setting. Not every machine has it. My new HP doesn't seem to have it although I never tried faxing yet over my VoIP line.

The problem with voip faxing has to do with packet transmission. Voip is good for voice (?) not for fax, so If you change the settings it can help. For more info see the link above.
