Repost but this is definitely bad news.

Glad I made it to the QR Al Safawa  F lounge before ISIS turns the Al Saffawa lounge into a Maddrasa  :P

QR flights are going to have to route over Iran and possibly Iraq...that's not good.

That wouldn't actually help them for almost any flight.

What would all of this do to saver availability.

Initial thoughts are that QR saver availability should open up, as it might not be a viable travel option for many. EK and EY saver availability should tighten, as those might be the next alternative for people who would consider QR.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Not necessarily. QR may tighten supply and EK/EY may increase.

Anybody feel like flying Qatar airlines from the US is a bad idea due to recent political tensions beteeen USA and Qatar? The airlines just dropped their prices to South Africa in what I assumed was in response to Trump's recent statements- but I'm wondering if it's a bad idea to use them now..?

I doubt anything is in response to Trump's statements. Prices are a function of supply and demand, and since there's not too many people specifically interested in traveling to Doha, and since they are now forced to reroute flights to what might be less than optimal, travelers are preferring other options. That is until the price is right for flying with Qatar.

What's the deal with Saudia Airlines? does all the above apply there too? has anyone been on it?

I just reached out to Saudia Airlines and the agent confirmed that there's a KSML option.

Says who?

Says the fact that they don't honor Israeli passports, let alone have diplomatic relations?
