Topic Wiki

I just got the southwest companion pass, and I wanted to take my wife somewhere for our anniversary. I was thinking of going to one of the destinations that are just a short flight away from Newark (2 hours). The only 3 close places that southwest flies to direct from Newark are Chicago, St. Louis, or Nashville. Any suggestions as to which would be the best 2 day/1 night short trip?? (We've never been to all 3 of them)

You got 7 nights in a OWB and 2 transfers for $2,500 with tax?

Is the OWB worth $5K? That depends on your financial situation but you can live like a king in LIH in a GHK or SRP suite.
Funny I myself am looking at planning a trip for anytime july-sept and I'm deciding berween Bora Bora (location I prefer but points wise far from spectacular) Maldives (far but somewhat better for points) or Hawaii. I don't think I'll be "let down" if I go to Hawaii but the one thing I really want is privacy... Will the GHK Or SRP be able to afford me the same privacy as an OWB? I don't have Hyatt diamond (yet, I have Hilton Gold and will need to match it, but not sure when I'm travelling so don't want to miss my time frame)...

OWB don't really offer privacy though they offer the sense of privacy and seclusion.  Even if they have a private pool (the Hyatt OWB do not) people swimming by can see you and in some resorts you can see your OWB decks from other OWB decks.

If you want true privacy rent a home with a private pool or a pool villa from the Le Meridian Khao Lak, etc.  On Hawaii though you can always find a private beach.  You won't find that in BOB/MLE.

I like the sound of that. I also like the idea of Kosher food being somewhat easier... Question is one island or hop around some.... Isn't Inter Island flight quite cheap on miles (I imagine BA or possibly United as a good redemption?)?

Ok, so you have me convinced on HI, I would like to find myself there within the next half year or so, and I'd love to stay in GHK, as you make my mouth water when you guys talk about it.

I have an assortment of points including 50K SPG, 150K MR, 30K UR, 20K BA, 50K TY, and 110K United. Is there anything I need to start churning now for flights or hotels?  I guess I can start with Chase Hyatt for 2 free nights, what else?

I know I know, search for it. I've beed reading since 9:30 today, (it's 1:20 now!) so many discussions about Hyatt that are 2+ years old, not sure what still applies, upgrade to plat, if it's possible to churn the 2 free nights, if I can book 2 nights for myself and 2 for my wife if we both open cards, my brain is one big mush by now, a few pointers would be a great help!

Thanks.

Hyatt for you and the wife will take care of 4 nights there (try to get suite nights ). You have enough points for another night as well. Your spg can be used at the st Regis if you'd like a night or two on the north side of the island.

Thanks guys, but what do you mean by "suite nights", and can I churn the free nights?

I feel like such a noob asking this, but if you could just point me to a topic/topic wiki that talks about this I'd appreciate it.

If you apply for the Hyatt card as a Diamond member you get 2 free nights in a suite as opposed to a regular room.

Thanks!

And again, I've searched, the only way I can find to sign up as diamond is something about matching with other hotel, is that right?

Yes you have to get status with a different hotel and then call Hyatt to match it.

Which hotel chain is easiest to get the status, and how is it done?

Thanks.

Google for free Hilton Gold. Very simple...
