That may be true to a certain extent. It's all what you're used to. I did grow up around it and still say that a lot of things have gotten out of hand or warped as the years have gone by. And it's sad because it makes it harder for outsiders to learn to appreciate the nice things or different things because they are so focused on other things.

I agree. But as a side note IMHO the Baal Shem Tov would be ashamed and sad of some of the things that go on in the name of chassidus now a days.

But that's a separate issue.

To clarify, I did not intend to denigrate chassidim. I was saying that at minimum, they are enjoying "kosher entertainment" at a rebbes wedding as opposed to some yidden who nebach dance in clubs...
I was saying not to mock them, even if you feel that the chassidim are wasting their time at a wedding, let em enjoy! :)

Really? Are you serious??
The chofetz chaim would've been a goy if not the Bash"t?

Unless you mean: shaved beard = X yiddish, hence

The Baal Shem Tov comes and saves yiddishkeit

Just to clarify I'm talking 2013 chasidus.

Ah, the Rebbe זי"ע shept nachas in himel.

His chassidim one by one are so brutal eaten up with this נשתכחה תורת הבעל שם טוב that even while surfing the web and writing about credit card and miles the real shine still comes out of his chasissim...  :P

At least we have an idea who belongs to Satmar.

C'mon, the modox and the yeshivish have more respect to chasiddus today than Satmar has. I think they have gone way to far...

That still doesn't answer my question.

And let's not take this all personal, you probably know by now, I'm here just to stir the pot. Let's enjoy the convo while keeping the temper low.

Can you give an example? Obviously every community has it's minor problems but I can think of anything major he would be ashamed and sad about.

How about just the lack of acceptance in general ?

 :o ??? ::)

The majority of ultra-orthodox are chassidim.

He wasn't catering to the modox or modox-wannabes.

Acceptance of litvishe people? As someone who has seen been in both camps and is intimately familiar with both of them, I believe the Litvish people look down at the Chassidim, while on the other hand the Chassidim have respect towards them.

I don't disagree that many litvish people look down at chassidim. But the other way around happens also. In Israel perhaps more than the rest of the world.

Take a look at the Kol Haolam Kulo, or similar publications. Although there is nothing inherently wrong with have pictures of your Rebbe or chassidus published like that, when it goes from being the טפל to the עיקר, that is a problem.

Not sure what you mean in Israel. I have been here over a year and heven't experienced it yet.

In every crowd there's the lower end. Just because some jerk photoshops pictures to pump his Rebbe, doesn't say anything about the Chassidus. Do you think R' Ahron Kotler Zt"l is turning over in his grave because some guys are sitting in the coffee room the whole day reading DDF?! He knew there would always be weaker ones too.

No, the learners were never in trouble. It was the simple jews that the Baal Shem Tov loved and cherished and he showed them that their tehilim was every bit as precious to Gd as is the tiefe learning of a masmid.

Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I brought it as an example. A lot of chassidim are unfortunately more involved in the politics/matzav of their chassidus than in actual chassidus. Would they be better off without chassidus? Definitely not. But it sure is a downgrade from how it was originally intended...
