As a matter of fact, I do try, but I'm not AS concerned about it.

One cannot compare the relative ease of typing on a full keyboard to typing on a cell phone.
so what are you saying? most of us i can suspect use our phones.

why do you care so much? i am not trying to put your opinion down, rather i woul like to understand it.

Pls explain to me AJK why u give a **** about capitalization? When u text a sms do you also write correct grammer?

@meshugy doesnt suck that you have to put ppl down? Why do YOU care so much? Shouldnt we be worried about mor important things in life....

Because when you write without using proper punctuation, your readers have to read and reread what you wrote. It's kind of rude to expect that from your readers. Why should hundreds of people have to do the struggling just so that you can continue to be lazy.

Go to other respectable forums and you will see that it's a breeze to read through it.

Lack of proper caps, grammar, and punctuation, IMHO, evinces laziness, makes things harder to read, and is simply incorrect English.

And to some (albeit more sensitive) people, a lack of the above illustrates a profound disrespect for your community's members. I personally don't feel disrespected, but I can understand the sentiment, nonetheless.

(And, yes, on your phone it's not that difficult to use caps either.)

When you space twice after a period.
i def understand the concept, and your feelings, and its wrong when i myself, would write run on sentences, and i got called out. Thats all true. but i asked about a specific area of grammer, which i dont think shows anything. this is the 21st century, its how were brought up. we speak phone lang. which includes, no caps and a lot of lol's.

I have been working on my punctuation for months already, and yes i will be the center of the joke when it comes to this, "bec rots used to write like a chasid' but i dont think it shows any negativity towards someone who doesnt write caps in the beg of a sentance or I and so on.

Would it make a difference if our mistakes were due to a lack of education?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

I text with punctuation but I do give more leeway for people who don't.

But for writing on the forums or in an email I think people should write correctly.

The reason phone language came to be was because we typed on a numeric keypad. Most of us don't nowadays.

Would it make a difference if our mistakes were due to a lack of education?

In a certain sense, sure.

But it would still "evince laziness, make things harder to read, and is simply incorrect English."

Not learning how to do something proper, despite not learning it early on, does not excuse the laziness for not (attempting to) learn(ing) it later.

Lack of education doesn't make it any easier to read or any less incorrect.

Ok, @AJK, @SKY121

Since you are human beings, i take your opinions to heart. I am sorry, and will try to have complete punctuation when I write.

If you want to do it for yourself, or perhaps for the forum community, great.

Don't do it for me (even if I'm allegedly a human being), and don't apologize.

I guess we all have different priorities in life.

Whether you meant it or not, that's the kind of off-hand comment that implies I have zero appreciation that individuals have varying priorities, limited resources, and unique struggles.

Nothing could be farther from the truth, and, frankly, it's insulting.

In any event, properly using the language that is (i) the language of the forum in which you're participating, (ii) the mother-tongue of the country in which the majority of us live, and (iii) the first language of the majority of the members of this forum (members who themselves don't even attempt proper grammar), is akin to eating with a fork and knife, even if no one taught you to do it.

It's just one of the things self-respecting people outside of India do.

And to be clear, no one excepts perfection. But not even to try? To not capitalize after a period? To use absolutely no punctuation? That I can't get my head around.
