Leasing an Older Model Car
« Reply #2840 on: February 22, 2017, 12:46:03 PM »
Does anyone have any experience leasing an older model car? Can I expect significant savings? Any downsides? Looking for as much info as possible.

Thank you!

When leasing a car from one of the local frum companies (PAL, LD, WTL etc.), are they considered the "dealer" or are they only a "broker"?

case in question: we were talked into leasing the new minivan, and the transmission broke within the first 2 months.
We got really horrible customer service  from the Jewish company we leased from - them claiming that they have nothing to do with the car they leased us, and we need to deal with the company who made the car.

While speaking with lawyers, seems that the "dealer" is at fault under the NYS lemon law, which leads to my question

Every broker has an underlying dealer. See in your contract the name of the dealer.

The Leasing companies are brokers not dealers. As you may notice you pay every month straight to Honda, Toyota etc... They are the dealers (side note most leasing companies will help you out with a problem, but not all will. Really depends on your relationship with them)

frum leasing companies are not dealers. they are facilitators. that's why there are no non frum ones. Everyone else leases from the dealership, the frum guys shop around dealerships, make deals with them etc. and then put it together for you. if you look at your paperwork you're leasing from a dealer, not xxx leasing company. their name is not there anywhere.
Now, it might be a legitimate argument that they can't get the rebate on your behalf, but that's what they're doing.

Well not all are licensed, but Wheels to Lease and PAL are both license dealers and have DMV licenses.

they are a broker, any dealer will fix it, you are under the warranty. no lawyers, courts, police etc need to be involved
. its that simple

I believe his frustration is purchasing a new vehicle and needing to repair it right away. For any small electronics you just return and get a brand new one but by bigger things it doesn't work this way.
It is a very bad feeling but not sure there is a way around.

Just another reason not only to look at the price of the lease. Who you get it from matters. Service counts

Got charged a hefty disposition fee after returning my car, leasing company never mentioned this fee at the time of leasing.

Would this affect my credit not paying it? As they already closed off my account as paid in full.

Officially they waive it if its the 3rd or more lease from them in household but seems they don't want to budge.
