AA Advantage Credit Card vs. Other Credit Cards
« on: July 21, 2010, 10:47:19 AM »
Hi Everyone,

I'm an American Airlines gold member. I try to fly with them whenever I fly for business or pleasure. For the past couple of years I've been using  the AAdvantage Citi Mastercard which gave me 25,000 points and a 1:1 ratio for every dollar spent

I want to close this account and open another card. Should I stay with AAvantage( and if i do should i chose Amex or Mastercard) or is there another card that will give me more points.

I spend about $25,000 a year on my card so i thought a card that gives me less mileage points when opening an account but a better ratio for every dollar spent would be good.

Thank everyone!

Amex SPG gives you 1.25 miles per $1 & at 20k in pts ($20k spent) you can transfer it to AA and SPG throws in a bonus of 5k Right now they have a promo where if you spend $1k within the 1st 3 mionths of getting the card they will give you 30k in pts (36k in AA miles)

But not every vendor takes Amex that maybe the down side for you but Im sure you can spend the needed $1k for the bonus

then also apply for 1 of teh many AA CCs you never had (can do both at teh same time) and get that bonus as well and use it for those vendors taht wont take Amex

Get the Amex Starwood card. You earn 1 point per dollar spent and they transfer to AA for every 20,000 you receive 25,000 AA miles, so thats a 25% bonus on top of what you are earning with the AA card.

They currently have a signup bonus of 30,000 points when you spend $1000 in the first 3 months (limited time offer until 7/31- see this post- http://www.dansdeals.com/forums/index.php?topic=2723.0;message=29354 ). Also the annual fee is waived the first year and only $45 every year after which is less than the AA Citi Card.

If I already have a Starwood Amex or if I've had one in the past will i get the sign up bonus points?
As with all churning, YMMV.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

i assume some of the yidishkeit ones are abbreviated on purpose, to prevent C"H if these ethics discussions were too public.

True, but I assume if you write out ZNVZLC no one would be the wiser...

I think the main reason is like all other abbreviations, its shorter.

You would think that "abbreviation" should be a shorter word....

Id say it was simply due to it being alot easier to write C"H then spell it all out. eg AFAIK = As Far As I Know alot easier and quicker to write AFAIK then each word and letter

BTW it took me a very long time till I got the jest of it on FT but after spending enough time on the boards sometimes asking as well , a person learns them, sort of like Texting (which I dont do) a language onto itself

When in doubt you can always check out the FT glossary.
Obviously it only has the travel related abbreviations.
