The 2nd column is my actual fee from Amazon. The last 3 columns are what eBay and PayPal would have charged.
The first item was non-FBA, the second was FBA.
although I can't seem to duplicate those exact amazon fees as they are Coming out higher for me, nonetheless you are right and I will now slink back into my corner

For a new seller, eBay takes 10% and PayPal takes 2.9% + $0.30. Amazon takes different amounts based on the item category. They have a fee calculator if you want to check a specific item.
I've only sold 2 iPads on Amazon, but I've found that they take less than ebay and PayPal.

Because their fees on electronics is 7%. Fees go as high as 15 and I think books 20 percent.

Otherwise start out with Amazon / ebay likes and build wealth.
Not everything can be sold on Amazon or eBay.

If I'd rather run my own website and not use amazon, would someone be so kind as to estimate my costs? Everyone's saying around 5k, what does that include? Would I needa hire an IT and someone else to do graphics? Is that a one time expense or continual? Also what type of security would I need to secure payments and cc info, and how much would that cost?

Its 2014. You can build a beautiful website for significantly less than $5K. I'd say your upfront costs can be as little as $1K. (Of course, they can also be as high as $100K, but it doesn't sound like you're looking for any sort of enterprise solution.)Its impossible to determine what your monthly costs will be without knowing more about your business.

I always recommend Volusion for people starting out in ecommerce. Plans start as low as $15/month, and a 3 year old and an 83 year old can both figure out the Volusion backend. Typically, the easier a platform is to use, the more limitations you run into, but the abilities of Volusion are actually quite vast. You can do everything with Volusion from hosting to credit card processing to site design to marketing.

I currently use Magento Enterprise for my site, and it is not worth the money, at all.

If you have your own e-commerce site, is there a rule that you have to charge more than you charge on Ebay?

You'll already be making money by avoiding the eBay selling fees

You didn't answer the question. His question was, some sites require you to list your items for less than what it's listed for on your own site, and is eBay one of those.

Only if you sell both on ebay and on your own site...
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Decided to push off creating a website for my business for now, but how would I go abt saving the domain name? As of now to seems like it still open? How much does it cost? And is it a one time fee or monthly/yearly?
