I'm just talking about shabbos right now. Not seeing much then...

Truthfully I'd rather not be there for shabbos with 5 kids but Sun-Thurs is just too short from NYC.

What? Sun-Thu is too short I time? People spend that amount of time after a 5 hour flight all the time. Heck, I've done 2 trips, one with a baby, to HI (from LAX, a 5-hour flight) for just Sun-Thu.

I spent many years in Monsey, Lakewood and NY.
But, I don't think you're sentiments are typical, perhaps more common, but not typical.
I also don't mind at all, just have compassion for you. And gratitude to Hashem that I can't even wrap my mind around your position. I'm sure it's a product of community and upbringing, but to have any problem, on a one time basis, in joining with 9 other yidden who are shomer Torah and mitzvos in davening to the Borei Olam, is something foreign to me.

Well said. I don't get it either, but I've already resigned myself to not getting some of the things people from the NY area doing important.

5 Kids. First day or two they are jet lagged. I've done Hawaii from Sun-Thurs on a much longer flight but no kids were involved.

The jet lag thing is beyond me when going three hours back. LA is such a morning place that you can find loads of activities to do early in the morning when your kids would naturally get up, even around 6 a.m., and especially in the summer when it's light outside. Even if you spent all week in LA on East Coast time you would have no problem.

well some of us do the points and miles thing to get awesome experiences and don't look at it as $ but I guess that's a whole different discussion

Lol go look back at my first posts on ddf I had long discussions about this. I would say my vacation habits have definitely changed since I joined ddf but in essence i'm still the same guy that would rather the $ than the points. If I was married with no kids that might be a different story...

5 days is more than enough for LA. The main activities are eating, shopping, and theme parks after all.

Yes -- more days to include visits to San Diego/La Jolla, Palm Springs, Malibu/Monterey, Oxnard/Tierra Sur, etc..  even just bicycling along Venice Beach is a great family day-time activity.

We have 3 theme parks on the list. Sunday would be out with late arrival. That leaves 3 relatively longs days out of 4 with late departure thursday night/cranky kids on Friday and not much time to relax. I think I'd rather extend the trip and give some time for relaxation + use of the resort amenities.

Oh and it doesn't cost me anything extra due to the Marriott 7 day cert...

Just curious, how old are the kids? Which 3 parks?
I'm still traumatized from one theme park with 2 kids last year in LA. Literally traumatized.

Lol, I don't think he realizes exactly how tiring going to I theme park is. Let alone 3 in 5 days. Oh, and he has actually no interest in doing anything specifically related to being in LA apparently, as theme parks can all be done in Orlando.

Not trying to bash you, just being realistic about your decisions. Obviously it's your vacation and you can do whatever you want, daven wherever you want and stay wherever you want. I'm just trying to give unbiased advice based on the average person's desires.

The theme parks are better in Orlando then in LA?

At the time of the trip they will be 0.5, 3, 5, 6, 10. Disney, Universal (Harry Potter world for the 10 yr old), and Legoland. We did similar itinerary in Orlando before without the 0.5 yr old and it went well. Extending the vacation for rest days in between makes it better, hence my point. But I guess we were contemplating different activities...

Believe me I do, which is exactly the reason why I said I wanted a longer vacation...and the additional days can be used for LA things if that's how we want to go. Orlando vs LA basically better weather, better food, similar activities (at least for us).

Time change means Orlando theme parks are a much better idea than LA IMHO. They wanted to stay for the Disney parade at night and it was disastrous due to that.
