You mean you want to open a Verizon line with your old number and keep your Sprint plan open with a different number?

In that case, the way to do it is to call the Verizon sales dept. and negociate with the sales rep. a credit for the ETF that he's paying to Sprint (if they don't offer it the first time he should hang up and try again until he gets somebody who's willing to do it), it's called "discretionary sales credit".
Open up the line on the spot. Once he gets the phone, port the number to Verizon, and the Sprint line will be automatically closed. Voila.
DO NOT SAY A WORD TO SPRINT ALL ALONG UNTIL THE LINE IS PORTED OVER TO VERIZON.

Yes I wanna keep my Sprint line with a different number.

Actually I'm outta contract. My Sprint benefits are just to good to give up.

If it's just shoddy service at home ask them for an Airave.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Maybe just start a new plan, and port within the kill period. Would that work?

Let me get this straight:
You're opening a new plan as a primary line, but are ready to keep giving sprint money for the benefits they're giving you, even if you have a phone line with them just by default?
What kinda benefits are you getting, I'm curious.

If you have an old Sprint plan, Its almost impossible to make any changes on it whatsoever as Sprint is trying to terminate their old plans and not being very acommodating to old-plan customers.

ceejay: what kind of benefits do you have with Sprint currently?

A new line on sprint?
Make a whole new plan on sprint. Transfer your number onto it, then port your number to verizon within the cancellation period

I had spoken to someone there and I was told that when u port a # out the service gets terminated and you must pay the ETF but I had a fam plan so my account would still be active and so I was able to call up right away and said I had no intention of terminating the line I just want you to assign me a new #

I want to switch my number from Sprint due to shoddy service Im getting however I dont want to give up the line. If I switch numbers on the Sprint line will I still be able port my old number to Verizon.

Try to find out if there's a way to switch numbers between two lines (with separate plans) on one Sprint account. If that's possible, just open a new line with its own plan, switch numbers, and port your number (once it's on the new plan) to a different carrier.

Something tells me this isn't possible. With WLNP they are legally required to release your number, but they are under no obligation to keep your grandfathered plan active. It seems like you might have to choose one to keep: either  your number, or your plan.

Still wondering how its worth it for him to keep his benefits while paying for another plan on the side.
I'm wondering what kind of benefits are worth doing that...

Maybe he wants to sell the plan or give it to someone who can use it (i.e. if it is a really good value but has too few/much minutes for his needs).
