UA will throw you a challange if you ask them to comp you UA status based on what status you have elsewhere. If I remember they give you the status but its only good for say 90 days and within those 90 days you need to fly X amount of EQMs or segments or you lose the status and then must start from wherever you are holding. So if its 15k in 90 days and You do 12k then you lose the temp 1P but only need 13k more to be 2P (Silver) but will have to do it w/o having any status = no bonus RDMs or free bags etc etc
I havent heard where UA will give you a challange if you dont have status elsewhere, also I believe the most they will comp is 1P , most others mid-level or Gold, havent heard of anyone getting 1K as a comp.
