My friend is planning a trip to Ecuador in 2 weeks. I would like to hear eyewitness reports from anyone who has been to Ecuador. Any info on what to see and about Kosher food?

I heard about a boutique hotel that just opened in Quayaquil and is fully kosher.
They are located right near the Chabad.

Ok here is some info on the kosher food situation in Galapagos.  Most Americans take a boat tour and the chabad Rabbi in Guayaquil provides meals and works with the boats to provide kosher meals. I believe it is $20/meal/person. We didnt do this so I can't tell you about the quality. I would be curious from someone who has.  We brought all our own food and cookware and when we flew from Quito to Galapagos all the bags are checked and they had no problem with us bringing in food. We brought a big cooler from Costco and filled it with cold cuts, hot dogs, bread, cheese etc. There is a Ecuador food list available online and we used that to supplement. There is a supermarket in Quito and Guayaquil called Mi Comisariato that sells raw kosher meat. They also do a weekly run of kosher breads in Guayaquil.  Some people say that the 100% milk and cheese(Fedac)  and bread(Supan) is kosher too even though its not on the list. Its not available everywhere though.

Update on kosher food in Ecuador
We found that kosher bread, milk (Cholov Yisroel) meat and chicken (Chabad Shechita) and other products were available in Guayaquil at the Mi Comisariato supermarket in the Urdesa neighborhood https://goo.gl/maps/g4DrQLojW4QLBqN36

There is a kosher restaurant (Chabad Hashgocho and Shechita) in Guayaquil https://g.page/kosherpitagrill?share   They also do catering anywhere in the country, including the Galapagos, the manager's email: shaharsun@gmail.com

The hotel mentioned near the Chabad House in Guayaquil, while very nice and accommodating for Frum travelers (mechanical keys, shabbos lamps etc), I did not notice when I was there that they advertised kosher food or that they have Hashgocho. The hotel is two blocks from the Kosher restaurant and Mi Comisariato supermarket so getting kosher food in the hotel posed no difficulty.

There seems to be some misinformation regarding certain products, for example Supan bread is NOT kosher, additionally as is unfortunately not too uncommon, we met some Frum Yidden that had ordered meals advertised as kosher which turned out not to have a reliable Hashgocho, so consulting you LOR is always recommended

I was recently in Guayaquil and stopped at the supermarket to check out the kosher section. This was after eating at the restaurant which is literally right next door. Very limited options at the store, you'd be better off bringing food with you.
Hey there! I am using DansDeals Forums.
