SwingSets: What and where to buy?
« on: August 08, 2013, 01:11:02 PM »
I am looking for a swingset- I assume it is best to buy it around labor day. Any good websites or any info would be helpful!

I help someone pick up a really nice wooden set on Craigslist last summer.
Just an idea.

How did you move it? Did you take it apart?

Don't know if it's called greentree, but a neighbor down the block bought a swing set from there, and had the Amish from PA come build it, really a solid swing set, would really get one myself it's a beautiful piece.

If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Costco has a pretty cheap one on sale with good reviews.

Anyone know if the Amishones are in the ballpark price wise?

Looking also for one...
I see this review on the costco one:

"Very weak structure and- much smaller than it look, the slide is literrally for todlers, not for 5-6 years old. Support wooden beams are too thin and looks weak. swings looks too weak for anyone other than a kid"

Not sure what to make of that one review. The other reviews on Costco.com are good and a similar set from gorilla at Home Depot has almost 5 stars with hundreds of reviews.

Overall gorilla playsets seem to have stellar ratings.

Depends on what type you are looking for.

The one I have is a vinyl set which is the most expensive bec it lasts a lifetime+. Any other of the cheaper sets (wood, cedar) will only last you 5 - 10 years and if you give it serious tlc you can squeeze a bit more our of it.

So, the ones in the 800 - 900 range are wood or cedar wood and YMMV as to the exact details and quality but they wont be usable for your grandkids whereas a vinly set which runs in the thousands will.
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

The one from Costco comes with a 10 year warranty. I'm not sure I should be investing in anything with a longer timeline than that. Isn't there a good possibility that my multi thousand dollars investment will be obsolete  in terms of safety and features by the time my grandchildren are in the picture? I mean look at any 20-30 year old swing set today. I get why I should invest in a house that will last 50 years but a swing set? Kind of like buying a 2017 car at quadruple the price that will last 40 years. Why not buy an up to date swing set every 10 years as needed for the same price? Am I missing something?
