Used Cars For Sale Master Thread
« on: August 12, 2013, 09:19:25 AM »
I searched and searched and haven't yet found a thread that discusses used card, so I figured I'll start my own. I'm looking to buy a used car and I'm very new at this whole thing. I was offered a '02 Camry with 75K miles on it for $7200 is that considered reasonable? Or a '06 Camry with 75K miles on it with leather and sunroof for $9200.

You can use KBB.com to find out what a car should be worth.

If you have the heart for it, you can try using craigslist to find a car.

Will try KBB but can't bring myself to use Craig's.

Not for the faint of heart. Personally, I have gotten some good deals through the site.

No.

It works better if you have an idea of what kind of car you are looking for, just searching the posts can be very tedious. Knowing or knowing someone who can check the car for you is a must as well (a carfax should also be looked at). After that, it is just haggling and getting the paperwork. Stay away from cars with a bad carfax, or owners who won't show you paperwork.

I guess but I think it's easier to go to Lakewood Auto Sales. He sells 75% of used cars here, which means he's not a rip off and sells decent cars.

Not sure how one equals the other, but good luck with whatever you do.

If he ripped people off he wouldn't be so successful. Pretty simple, I think.

I got an amazing deal on Craigslist last summer. I got a 2012 Sonata in perfect condition - on the road 3 months with 6,500 miles and I got it for $15,500 (bargained it down from $18,000). The car was checked by Hyundai and given a perfect bill of health and I'm at 25K now with no problem B"H.
Craigslist is hit or miss but if you do your due diligence you can find a good deal.

Def do Carfax over AutoCheck. Just got a used car and got both. Carfax had way more info and history.

Edmunds.com is much more accurate with their pricing.

+1 I don't understand why they're so famous when their estimates are so off.

I have one to sell, but it's an old ('95) heavy clunker.

Would give it away for 500.
