How about you describe how the knot created by this is different than a regular bow?
In a regular bow the two loops are independent of each other, which is why one can make half a bow with only one loop.

In an Ian knot the bows thread through each other, if you pull the loose end of one all the way through, you end up with the same half bow that you would have if you just intended to make that in the first place.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

You can do this with only one by putting it through twice as well.

By it going through twice it has extra hold.
Do you mean this? The yellow string is holding down the blue one twice? (This is the Ian knot)

Okay this is legitimately the greatest thing I've ever learnt on DDF.

Serious response time!

Yes. Use the Ian Knot.
Takes a bit of time to get accustomed to it, but after a while you can untie AND retie a shoe in under 15 seconds (with a double knot)

Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Yup, don't get roped into these halachic arguments that knot up every thread here. People are so tightly wound and won't loosen up at all - it can really throw you for a loop.

Best not to get tied down to any side of a discussion, and certainly don't double down. You can string together a beautiful argument laced with wit and humor, but someone will inevitably find a stray frayed strand in the thread and yank it right out of context to undo everything.

Better to just to just slip out and loaf around someplace else.

Indeed.

Ian's knot is one of the most practical things I've learned about through DDF. It affects me every single day! Takes a bit of time to get used to, but once you do, you won't understand how anyone doesn't use it, or how you lived so long tying your shoes any other way.

I'm honored...

No I am referring to the secure Ian knot which he linked to. The result of a regular Ian is exactly the same as any regular shoelace bow.. I guess I should have been more clear about what I was referring to.

Issue solved.

I didn’t realize that there was a link to any different kind of Ian knot. I was talking about the good old simple Ian knot.

She needs a DDF memo for that? Might call for an entire CPU swap if one could even consider buses.

What does it start at?

Maybe it’s because it’s a Shomer Shabbos gas station. I go out of my way to try and use Shomer Shabbos stations in Israel.

Taken this afternoon at one of the closest gas stations to LLBG (right next to the runway. Many people were congregated there when Air Force One landed in TLV.
