Can anyone recommend when is better to travel? both are similar prices from where I'm going (Kabul).... I'm planning on going for a week with wife and baby... I'm sure Sept. would be quieter but is it really a big difference? (hotels all sold out in August? cars more expensive? not that I'm planning on staying in hotels every night anyway...)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Definitely go in September.
In August all of the Israelis will be touring along with foreign tourists during summer break making everything crowded and expensive.
Plus it should be cooler in September than in brutal August.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Car rentals are more expensive July/August - high season (bain hazmanim). Prices go down in September. And yes, after August you won't have to contend with mobs of Israelis/yeshiva bochurim/tourists everywhere.
